Just my opinion on sliders
Not to be an ***, but I've been messing around with the sliders, and I've come to the conclusion that most people messing with them are way off on some of their settings. I have this game playing so perfect, and some of the sliders that people are using are way off. Baserunning speed and arm strength should not be at 100 and 0. Contact should not be so low. Reaction speeds should also not be at 0. I can see toning these down and increasing them slightly but I'm pretty much playing a perfect game right now and my sliders are nowhere close to the consensus here. I am playing with the Royals and I've gotten a feel on how to steal bases and field, and pitch the corners so I get a good combination of balls and strikes and walks, plus hitting I've gotten a good feel for working the count. So I don't know if my sliders will work for everyone but I'll post them eventually once I get a few things down.Tags: None -

The thing is sliders are always different for everyone. What might work for you might not work for me. Probably because I am better player. I need harder sliders. All kidding aside that is cool that they work for you. That is what sliders are for!

Re: Just my opinion on sliders
If the game is so perfect for you, and we are all WAAAAAAAAAYYYY off track, why don't you post them now?
And there are a lot of guys here who are legend slider makers for numerous games, but you come in here and say they have no idea what they are doing. This is like the third thread I have seen you diss someone's sliders in, but yet yours are not listed in the slider thread anywhere???
You keep saying, "not to be an ****, but", and then you fill in the blank for us by saying how perfect you have the game playing.Comment

Re: Just my opinion on sliders
PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!! post these things if they are so great. I have tried several versions on the board, none of which so far have left me 100% content. I want to see how a guy can score from 2nd on a single without the arm strength being almost @ zero and running not 80 or above.....
I know that if in my own tinkering, I find something this great I will be sharing them with everyone - at least as a base.Comment

Re: Just my opinion on sliders
These are all based on using the swing stick. Using the swing stick with Step influence is the way to go imo. I see a lot of foul balls, pop ups and just great ab’s this way. They are also based on using Zone 1 pitching. The key here is you really need to paint the corners. Move the cursor and feel the vibration of the edge then move the cursor slighty inside that. That is where you want to throw the pitch for the most part and obviously you have guage and guess for curvers, sliders, etc.. I also let teh catcher call the game for me. I see even strikes and balls me vs the cpu this way and equal walks. The swing stick and Zone 1 pitching are pretty much a must with these. Try to be patient at the plate. Also stealing bases are perfect with these. Read my comments on how to steal next to the steal setting. This is why baserunning and arm speeds should not be at 100 and 0 plus all the times you should beat out throws you shouldn't. With baserunning and arm speeds at that rate, its an automatic steal with a decent baserunner. Trust me.
Player Options
Batter Contact: 40-50
-I’m currently using 50 with the Royals and I get 8-9 hits a game on average. I might lower this to 45 because I do hit some balls that I think I shouldn’t sometimes, but so far it seems great. I see a wide variety of foul balls, popups etc.. I strike out realistically etc. If you are using a better team you might want to try a slightly lower setting in the 35-40 range.
Batter Power: 20
-This is perfect. I go games without seeing a hr, I see games where I get a hr or 2 or 3. Power needs to be up slightly otherwise you are seeing way too many dinky hits and bloopers. Again if you are using the Red Sox you might want to lower this. I tend to think lowering the power setting when using better teams would be more prudent, but who knows, since the royals are a decent team for average. I think this is very realistic with the Royals. so it might be fine. Same with contact.
Batter Influence: 30
Power Swing: 25
-Same thing as batting power, might need to adjust accordingly for the team you are using
Step Influence: 60
Pitcher Difficulty: 90
Batter Bunt Assistance: 10-
-I haven’t played with this overally, but it’s at 10 now because bunting is way too easy by itself. This seems like it could almost be at 0.
Batter Bunt for Hit: 35
-same thing I haven’t bunted enough, but I put this up slightly because it gives you a better jump out of the box. I’ve beaten out some bunts and it seems pretty realistic. I havent gone into situation and just tried testing it over and over though. but i might. 35 just seems like a decent guess here.
Runner Baserunning Speed: 75-80
-I’ve pretty much settled on 80 here, although 75 is really good too
Runner Stealing Success: 65
-This seems absolutely perfect to me. The key to stealing is taking 3 steps leading off if you are at 1st. 2 if you are at 2nd. Then queue the steal. DO NOT try to time the steal attempt on the pitchers windup. Queue it before he winds up. Also do not attempt to slide in different ways. Use the default slide that it does. You will see very realistic steal percentages. I tested this extensively by setting up a situation.
Infielder Errors: 60
Outfielder Errors: 60
Infielder Speed: 20(perfect)
Outfielder Speed: 40-45
-I’m currently using 45. I could see going 40 though. But 45 seems really good.
Catcher Throw Speed: 60
Infielder Throw Speed: 60
Outfielder Throw Speed: 40
-maybe 35, but 40 seems pretty awesome
Infielder Reaction Speed: 50
-I don’t understand why people are lowering the reaction speeds. Having reaction speeds at 0 is way to slow and ruins the fielding imo. You see way too many plays where the guy just stands there and the ball goes over his head and it automatically changes to the OFer before you can even do anything. I could see going 40-45, but 50 seems awesome to me. In conjunction with the OF speed, I get to balls I should. I tried 40 but I wasn’t getting to some balls that I should have. 50 is not too high, because I still see bloop hits, and with IF speed at 20 it seems perfect)
Outfielder Reaction Speed: 50(ditto)
Fielder Spd Burst Length: 0
Fielder Spd Burst Power: 0
Fielding Aggression: 50
-seems great. I’ve seen some collisions and I have to use x on occasion to call off the fielder. I haven’t messed with this overly, but it seems fine.
Pitcher Fatigue: 35-40
-still experimenting, I’m currently using 35, but Im probably going to go to 40 because my pitchers are going slightly too long it seems to me
Pitcher Interface Speed: 80
-in conjunction with Zone 1 pitching this is perfect. Anything higher is ridiculous when your pitcher starts to tire and gets tense. Anything lower I don’t see enough balls. Trust me on this. Using Zone 1 and 80 Interface speed is a must.
Injuries: 50
Pitch Speed: 75
-this seems perfect. Anythign higher and I was not picking up the ball and was striking out too much. Anything lower is just too slow. I could see going 80 and keeping contact up though. This really works in conjunction with the contact slider imo. 75 and lower contact might be good for example.
AI General Options
AI Infield Errors: 70(the cpu doesn't error as much for some reason, with human at 60 and ai at 70 i see a realistic average for both sides)
AI Outfield Errors: 70
AI Infielder Speed: 20
AI Outfielder Speed: 40-45(same thing as human. I’m currently using 45 but I could see going 40)
AI Catcher Throw Speed: 60
AI Infielder Throw Speed: 60
AI Outfielder Throw Speed: 35-40(same as human. I’m currently using 40, although I could see going 35)
AI Fielding Aggression: 20
AI Throwing Aggression: 80
AI Hit n Run: 50
AI Sacrifice Bunt: 50
AI Squeeze: 50
AI Run Aggression: 70(this is perfect. The default 85 you will see runners break when they shouldn’t. Anything lower than 70 is too passive)
AI Stealing Success: 65(I might play around with this more, but 60-65 seems good. Turn off the catcher cam option in settings please)
AI Steal 2nd: 70
AI Steal 3rd: 60(I haven’t seen many steal attempts for 3rd. I might play around with this but it seems fine)
AI Steal Home: 50(same. I had it at 70 and I actually saw a steal of home. It seemed like it would happen too often. Since I changed to 50 I haven’t seen one, so I don’t see any reason to go lower right now. If I put it too low I may never see one)
AI Diveback: 50
AI Batting Options
AI Batters Use Inside Edge: OFF(I turned this off. I don’t want the cpu buying reports and messing with the sliders, and ratings. I might try it on, but I haven’t experimented with it overly. I’ve just been trying to get my sliders in tune before I start letting the cpu mess with them, but I will experiment more with this later)
AI Take Strike Overall: 60
AI Take Strike Ahead: 65
AI Take Strike Behind: 60(awesome. I see the cpu swing and get called looking the way they should)
AI Take Ball Overall: 65
AI Take Ball Ahead: 70
AI Take Ball Behind: 50(perfect. Any higher and you wont see enough so’s)
AI Skill: 90
AI Contact: 45
AI Power: 50-55(I’m currently using 50 and I see hr’s. I might try 55 though. 50-55 is a good range)
AI Bunt For Hit: 40(I raised this slightly. Same as human. I’ve seen the cpu bunt for a hit on occasion with this set at 40. Its just hard to test, because it doesn’t happen all that often in real games and in this game)
AI Pitcher Difficulty: 20
AI Effectiveness MOD: 80
AI Pitching Options
AI Pitchers Use Inside Edge: OFF(Same as batting. I’ll mess around more with this later)
AI Corner: 85(seems perfect to me. This is also another thing that effects so’s. The more corner pitches the more SO’s)
AI Change Speed: 80
AI Throw Strike Overall: 35
AI Throw Strike Ahead: 35
AI Throw Strike Behind: 35(I’ve messed with the throw strike settings quite a bit. I had them all at 30 and it seemed like there were slightly too many walks and balls thrown but it was cool. 35 its tough to get walks but not impossible. I’d rather the challenge I guess. I could see tweaking these slightly ie making one 30 or something but its pretty good)
AI Fatigue: 55-60(same as human. I’m currently using 55, but I’m probably going to go 60. The cpu doesn’t seem to tire quite fast enough)
AI Pickoff: 50(this has been tested in conjunction with the steal settings. 50 is the right setting. They will try to keep you close when you take a lead)
AI Pitchout: 50
AI Meat Pitch: 20
Other Settings
Besides turning off inside edge here, be sure to turn it off in game settings as well.
The same goes for hot and cold teams and dynamic difficulty. For now these settings stay off, until I can test them.
Turn off catcher cam
Turn off the auto throw feature. I’m not sure what it’s called but it’s in settings
Use Zone 1 pitching(Let the catcher call the game, and paint the corners like I explained. If you want k's you really have to hit your pitches)
Use the Swing Stick! I use the power swing and everything its great.Last edited by Walker8; 03-16-2007, 02:31 PM.Comment

Re: Just my opinion on sliders
Again these are a work in progress. I havent tested against a total variety of pitchers, and with me using different teams, but I have played a decent amount of games. I'm ultimately going to change some things, but these seem pretty awesome to me. I pretty much jsut threw these up here for you guys to try and maybe you can test them for me against a variety of competition and give some input too.Last edited by Walker8; 03-15-2007, 10:39 PM.Comment

Re: Just my opinion on sliders
Well I feel pretty strongly that these are pretty close at least for me. Last game I played was Odaliz Perez vs Cleveland and Cliff Lee. I lost 5-0. I was thinking I might turn the contact down a tad, because I wasn't really striking out. He had 1 through like 5 innings but then he k'd me 4 times over the next 3 and and took a curtain call. Have you seen this yet? It was cool. he came out of the dugout and did the whole wave thing. Odalis pitched 6 1/3 before he tired, gave up 3 runs and k'd 5 or 6. Cliff Lee pitched 8 shutout inning and K'd 5. Hafner had a HR. I obviously didn't have any but had 8 hits and a couple doubles.
I've tested these against some top flight pitchers as well and they usually k me quite a bit, but realistically. I might try contact at 45 for the royals. anywhere between 40-50 seems good to me. I kind of like 50 right now. From what I've seen K's are pretty much determinant on contact, pitcher difficulty, corners and pitch speed. I'm sure as I get better I'm going to have to keep adjusting these.
Anyways I'm not "dissing" other people's sliders.. I understand everyone plays differently. If anything I took some things from trying other people's sliders and adjusted them to fit me playing as teh Royals. For example DanSF's sliders had a really good throw ball, throw strike, strikeout settings and I just increased and changed a few things to make it more realistic for me. If anything trying all these sliders has helped me see what works and what doesn't and helped me get these the way I like. I also took some things I liked from the default legend and all star settings, and adjusted certain thigns from things I read here abotu what each slider does as well. I don't know where I ever said you guys don't know what you are doing. All I've said in other threads is that I think some settings are off and I don't think people understand having some of these settings set that way make certain aspects of the game very unrealistic, not just for me but in general. Being able to steal a base 100% of the time is not realistic being one example.
I know some of these things I'm saying might take some time to get used to like using Zone pitching, and painting the corners like I explained, and stealing bases like I said and using the swing stick and being patient at the plate, but if you take the time to do that, I think you will see what I'm saying. This game is playing so good for me right now. Once you get the hang of hitting the right stick and making diving stops and catches, the fielding is awesome. I dont think people know that you are queuing these moves a lot of the time and have to time it. Also when fielding a grounder its better to lay off the stick when you are close and let the player pick up the ball. I think people got frustrated with the fielding and started turning stuff way down that they shouldn't instead of getting used to it first.Last edited by Walker8; 03-16-2007, 02:15 AM.Comment

Re: Just my opinion on sliders
Some settings i'm still working on
Contact-I haven't seen an abundance of hits at 50, but sometimes it seems too easy although the cpu seems to get k's and get me out. I think this has a lot to do with pitcher difficulty at 90, corners at 85. Sometimes I'll start games off hot and think I need to change it and then the cpu settles down and shuts me down. I am using the Royals I can see why this might be too easy for some. Like I said I could see this being anywhere from 30-50. I just k'd 11 times against Vasquez and Mcdougal and had 9 hits so I dont see any reason to change right now. 50 seems really good. Maybe 45 but I don't know. I'm getting like 9 hits a game, every game and k'ing 9 times a game with this setting
Power and Power Swing-This is pretty much the same. I haven't seen an abundance of hr's and I use the swing stick and power swing, but again I'm using the Royals.
Pitch Speed-I have this set at 75. This may seem slow to some. I might change this to 80 to get more of that feeling of the overpowering fast ball, but you go up against someone throwing 95 and you know it vs someone throwing slower. I just went up against Halladay and it felt like I was going against a dominant pitcher. 80 results in more k's, but I have change speed pretty high, and this will baffle you at times. Sometimes I dont think I'm going to k like I was saying but I still do because of the change speed and corner slider. I've been k'ing at a realistic rate at 75 so I don't know. 80 was a bit ridiculous. 75 seems spot on.
CPU Power-Sometimes it seems like the cpu isn't getting enough power, but then the White Sox hit 5 HR's against me like they just did. 50 seems really good, but I could go to 55.
CPU Runner aggression-70 seems like the best I can get this. I still see flaws and I'll try playing around with this, but 70 still seems like the best I can get this right now. I could see adjusting the runner speed and arms slightly, but with the combination of run speed, arm strenght, runner aggression, and sb success set the way it is, stolen bases are realistic and I see runners score from 2nd on base hits both cpu and human. Sometimes they hold up, sometimes they dont and are safe depending on the hit location. I see fast runners beat out double plays. I see infield singles on tough plays etc. I might try messing around with it and maybe lowering steal success, but its pretty close to the way it should be.
OF Fielding Speed for both human and ai-I still like 45. 40 is too slow I think. You still see people rob hr's too much but whatever. It's as close as its going to be. I see hits get over fielders heads and I see hits that drop in that should that are close. 45 seems like the way to go.
Pitching interface speed-I have this at 80 and I still think it's the best for Zone 1. It's slow at times, but if you want to get k's you really have to hit your pitches perfectly and if you miss the cpu will make you pay, plus once you get in later innnings it really speeds up, so I still think 80 is good for now. It's hard to time things because it speeds up and slows down depending on your pitchers composure and current state. I tried 85, 90, and 95 and it was absurd in later innings and when your pitcher is tense. I love zone because it makes mound visits very necessary and you can eitehr hurt your pitchers composure or help it and it makes the games more exciting. I see very equal balls and strikes between me and the cpu, about 70 percent strikes with this right now so I don't see why I would mess with it. 85-90 I see around 60-70 percent strikes and if I lower strike overall of the cpu i can get the same for them, but then im throwing meat pitches like crazy in later innings and its almost impossible. You get a tense pitcher and he's pretty much done at those speeds.
Bunt assistance-I think I'm going to change this to 0
Pitcher FAtigue for human and AI-I'm still not sure but I'm leaning towards changing this to 40 and 60 respectively although I just played a game where Odalis Perez was pretty much done after 4 innings. It seems like on average my starters go 6 and 1/3 innings. This is a little high as I think the average for a decent starter is around 5.8 or something but it's close.
Pitcher difficulty-I have this set at 90. It seems really good. Dominant pitchers are dominant but not impossible. I could see lowering this slightly but I haven't really played enough games to tell yet.
Again I'm playing as the Royals so some of this stuff is going to differ for some people but I'm getting beat like I should and the game just seems to play right to me.. As I play the game and delve more into some of the other settings, I think I'll get things closer. Right now like I said this game is playing so close to perfection for me though.Last edited by Walker8; 03-16-2007, 06:20 AM.Comment

Re: Just my opinion on sliders
while i do really like zone pitching i find that if i even miss by a little sometimes its always a meat ball not just a ball, now sometimes yeah i miss by a lot but others just a tad and meat ball, i wonder if setting pitcher effectiveness mod to 0 would help with this, have you experimented with this at all?
also you mention that some games the cpu seems to lack power and then you play a team like the sox and 5 hrs later a person is thinking of lowering power, if too many of these hrs. come late in the game say from the 7th inning on maybe that effectiveness mod setting is kicking in and upping there power, i really don't think it should be so high using zone because of all the meat balls one throws esp. if your pitcher even gets a little tired.Last edited by sask3m; 03-16-2007, 09:42 AM.Comment

Re: Just my opinion on sliders
Well that's the thing I dont have trouble throwing meatballs at 80 speed. I throw maybe couple a game. Same as the cpu throws me where I pick up where the pitch is going to be. WIth interface speed anything higher than 80 it was meatball city. I think zone just takes some getting used to. I'm serious when i say there is a big difference between 80 speed and 85, I dont know why but there is. With default payoff pitching its way too easy even at 100 speed. I can basically throw a strike and hit the corners every time and throw maybe 4 balls a game. It also effects how people hit me because im hitting my exact spot 90% of the time.Last edited by Walker8; 03-16-2007, 01:41 PM.Comment
