Okay, I spent about 8 hours tweaking these sliders. I did not start with anyone elses slider, but I really took care into the general complaints from people on these boards. The main goal is to help ease the problems that have to do with fielding. With these setting changes, I think I have eased the hiccups of infield fielding by eliminating the fielder reaction speed. This setting seems to ease the "auto fielding" of the computer. It tones down the extra "jump" that seems to happen with controlling the SS or 2Nd basemen.
I also believe I toned down the severe amount of wall catches by the computer. While many have stated that turning down the fielder speed corrects the problem, I also believe that turning up all the error sliders is the answer as well. The game has a built in mechanic that justifys errors. When you use the "dive" or "wall climb" with the "R" stick, the error slider keeps everyone from being a GG. You'll see more missed dives that bounce off, and you'll see more missed wall catches. Also, catching flyballs is tougher. The mechanic here is to keep your fielding curser red, but when blue, you're more prone to missing the catch. It's too forgiving on default, and raising the error sliders makes catching flyball, to me, more involving and rewarding.
Zone pitching is your answer for proper pitching. I really didn't think I'd want to get away from the default, but it's way too easy. Once I started playing with Zone again, I realized how much I really like this interface. It's a much more rewarding task coupled with breakpoint, and it's much tougher as well. However, it is not impossible. In fact, I find it to be much more realistic.
You'll notice that the batting preferences are basically all set to "0". However, the step influence is set to "100". While others have attmepted this method, I believe it's the only way to take on batting. The whole emphasis is based on your timing, thus, making it more challenging to get great contact on the ball. Also, with the contact slider at "0", the batters eye is typically much smaller, making it harder to guess pitches. When you do guess a pitch (these sliders have been designed for you to use the batters eye), you'll get the proper amount of power when making contact.
The pitching sliders were set to not make the computer so predictable. I believe I have it to a point where the CPU will surprise you. If you're down 0 and 2, the CPU won't always throw a ball, and they will sometimes throw that heater for the quick strike 3. Also, the first pitch will not always be a ball or strike, it will be a balance of the two.
With "Zoom on Pitch" on, you'll see a much improved view of the breaking pitch. With it off, you can see the homeplate, which will distort your eyes on breaking pitches (mainly the 12-6 curveball). The reasoning here is, you see more of the break than you need to. When the screen zooms in, you see only the amount of break you need to make a decision on rather the pitch will be a strike or a ball. Also, I think it looks cool too.
Don't forget, have fun!!
User Settings:
Batter Zoom: 0 (I have a standard TV. HD may require another setting)
Zoom When Pitch: On (It allows you to see the break more effectively)
Pitching Mechanic: Zone 1
Pitching View: Behind Pitcher (Best view for Zone pitching)
Pitching Setting: Breakpoint
Batting Mechanic:Swing Stick
Keep Fielder in View: Off (This assists with your fielding view, making it a bit closer to see the ball marker.)
Auto Switch Fielder: Off (You can change your fielder by pressing the "L" trigger. This keeps the game from switching your fielder automatically)
