    I strike out way too much!!!

    but i thought i fixed it with some sliders just minor tweaking. but now I seem to hit a lot of Hrs or still strike out, and get like 8-14 runs a game.

    I am looking for low k's (i normally strike out around 8-15) but keep the power respectable.

    Any suggestions?Need Hlep

      well iam also struggling in finding the correct balance for strikes out and hit....
      i mean the mlb average is about 6 strikes out a game, and 10 hits....but most of my game, either i strike out more than 8 times or i get too many hits, more than 12..i still cant find the balance...
      i think that if we could protect the strike zone more with foul tips and such that this would solve our problem...

      btw, i use swing stick.

        We have to live with the lack of foul tips for this year. Strikeouts will be higher than normal. Yesterday, I had my best game with only 5 k's and 3 BB's. (ironically, I lost but I felt it was my best disciplined game)

        I'm starting to see some trends that help reduce k's. First, how are your walks? 4-5 per game would indicate good discipline.

        Some other notes: I have the pitch strike slider down to 35. At this level I see some trends.

        1. The CPU's breaking pitches are usually balls. Learning to lay off the breaking ball will lead to better counts.
        2. I have pitch strikes when ahead: "low" so I could get some nice 3-2 counts. I don't want to get too many 3 and out.
        3. I noticed vs good hitters if the cpu is ahead 0-2, it usually throws 2 balls that break across the plate, tempting but we need to layoff.
        4. I noticed 7,8,9 hitters get pitched more aggressively as the CPU will try to go 3 and out. Therefore, swing at the first good pitch you get. As oppossed to taking too many pitches. Of course, if the CPU is throwing balls to your #9 hitter, take the walk.

        In some respects, this inconvenience may make us better hitters? As we learn to avoid swinging at borderline pitches for balls, as we learn to swing at pitches we can hit. I bet ya, I can go to MLB right now and have a 3 strikeout game with no problem! (lol) unfortunately, I'll get 15 hits on 3 runs. That's why I'm sticking with this game. I think they've got a great platform to imrpove on.

          Totally agree with PBerardi: Also, the more you play the game the more you will start to see the strike zone better. For me Zoom in on pitch with the zoom at 75 keeps my hitter's body somewhat framed around the strike zone. This may or may not work for you. I have always liked a zoomed in view to give a feel that I am at the plate.

            man, i totally agree with you...although i aways loved the show, i just couldnt stand those totalyl unrealistc box scores, and thats the reason i gave up on it.
            on the other hand , like you said 2k i driving the right way in my opinion...the game is fun, you can produce real box scores and such.., offcourse there are issues, but this game is a promissing series.

            about the strike out stuf.. call me slow, but i set the pitch speed to 50 , and now i see me not striking out much and not having a blast of hits...i just had a game in my franchise that pretty much exemplefies what i mean , take a look:
            (notice its a fantasy draft franchise)
            ---------------------------------------------------------
            astros 0r - 2h - 0e
            cubs(me) 1r - 2h - 1e
            w-zumaya
            L-mota

            HR- 1 R.weeks(walkoff in the bottom of the 9th inning)
            astros pitch total(starter was kazmir):
            8.1 inn, 3 k, 3 bb, 1er, 2h
            cubs pitch tota(starter was b.myers):
            9inn, 7k, 2bb, 0er, 2h
            ---------------------------------------------------------

            ok cool, that was a gr8 pitching duel...but now take a look at the box score from the next game:

            --------------------------------------------------------
            astros: 5r - 8h - 1e
            cubs: 9r - 13h -0e
            w-patterson
            L-c.lee
            s-r.soriano(hes my closer)

            HR- 1- L.gonzales(HOU); 1- Swisher(CHC), 1-A.gonzalez(CHC)
            astros pitching total(c.lee was starter):
            8inn, 8k, 4bb, 6er, 13h (notice the ER bug, due to runs via walks)
            cubs total(patterson started):
            9inn, 3k, 5bb, 4er, 8h
            ---------------------------------------------------------

            by those tow games u can see that i am having totally diferent kinds of games, and still not striking out more than i should(and notice that i do strike out a lot against pitchers that should make me do so, like last time i faced sheets , he had 9k in 7.1inn). i am very happy whith my slider set right now, as i am seeing many diferent kinds of games, and all feeling realistic..also by those 2 wins dont you think i am winning everything as i am 4-6 in my franchise right now....
            heres my rotation and lineup , maybe u wanna know:
            rotation:
            1-p.martinez
            2-cc.sabathia
            3-b.myers
            4-patterson
            5-a.guzman
            su- zumaya
            cl- r.soriano

            lineup:
            1-c.figgins(3B)
            2-r.weeks(2B)
            3-n.swisher(1B)(i know he plays more as LF, but he can also be a solid 1b)
            4-griffey jr.(CF(already in the DL)
            5-h.matsui(LF
            6-bard(C)
            7-d.delucci(RF)
            8-a.gonzalez(SS)

            not a very powerfull team, but i have a very good pitching staff...if they stay healthy(pedro in special) i think i can go far with this team.

              Re: I strike out way too much!!!

              When using the Swing Stick, you can protect the plate by simply pressing up on the "R" stick (do not step in, just press up on the stick when you want to swing). It's basically a "foul tip" swing, and it hits nothing but foul balls. I like this addition, but I really wish the CPU would use it. If they added a code that made the CPU use this mechanic when they are down in the count, it would further the realism. It would also work pitchers more. They added this mechanic this year, so I assume they didn't have time to program the CPU logic of using it.

                Re: I strike out way too much!!!

                man its much much harder to make contact with this only UP swing...
                i love the idea too..but it should be the other way around..i mean, it should be much easier to make contact with the "foul tip" swing...
                i tried using this on 2 strike counts for 2 game, and got striked out 15 times in the first and 18 in the second! while when playing using the regular contact swing i get striked out about 5-7 times a game, depending on who is pitching...if its an ace i problaby get strikeout more...like last time i faced b.sheets he strike me out 11 times in 7.2 inn. but i realy wish this mechanic work nicely, so it would simulated perfect the protect zone swing major leaguers use not to get striked out so easily. this is a promissing feature...unfortnatly didnt work for me this year. way to hard to make contact.
