How to get CPU to swing at balls?

I have used a variety of sliders from this board, and this is the only real problem I have with any of them. I can't seem to get the CPU to chase in any count. They won't swing at balls but they will swing and miss at strikes. Right now, I have all the AI take strike sliders near 100, but the AI take ball sliders I have tried various settings (all more than 50). I have set them this way as it seems to me, the CPU doesn't take enough pitches overall. They swing at too many pitches but won't ever chase pitches out of the strike zone. Anyone have some good settings for this?

I posted this issue on the main board and got lambasted for it. I was having the same issue. I put take ball overall at 15, take ball ahead at 40 (disciplined hitters take balls ahead in the count) and take ball behind at 0 (undisciplined hitters generally chase more when they are behind) and got good results.

I currently stopped using that set and am now using trinities to test his but ill probably go back to my take ball slider set.

      Try poker's suggestion too.

If it's still an issue, why is that one slider at 40? Take them all down to 0, which is what I did. Try that. I'm not saying it'll get the results you're looking for, but check it out. After that, it would be a matter of editing player ratings.

EDIT: Sorry, I misread your post. Anyway, the above applies to the OP: lower them sliders!

The take ball ahead slider is at 40 because generally good, disciplined major league hitters take balls ahead in the count. When batters are behidn they chase more often. I dont want the AI swinging at everything when they are ahead or even in the count. Trying to get it as realistic as possible.

I understand, but the sliders are not working very well this year. When you have to set sliders at 0 just to get semi-realistic results, something is wrong. Maybe the take balls sliders work better than the take strikes... I don't know because I just lowered them all to 0 and like what I'm seeing so far.

Ya.. I've still yet to figure this one out. I get plenty of K's in a game, thats not my problem. Just most of them come on strikeouts qwhere the AI is looking. Most of that though has to do with the large and ridiculous strikezone this game has. The ump is forever calling clear balls for strikes. Some games its the opposite though, but thats rare. And because of that, its extremely difficult to walk AI batters. I'm dead last in the league at walking batters right now in my chise. I'll just leave it where its at now though, not going to go messin with it. My K's are realistic, just have to suffer with the lack of walks though. I tried AI take balls up to 75 and 80!! But again, with the large strikezone, it makes it too hard to walk a batter, and they tend to swing alot anyway and foul balls off.

Anyone ever think of just editing all player ratings to 100 for walks??? It may help, may not when getting a realistic amount of walks.

I thought if you increase the take ball slider towards a 100 they will TAKE more balls rather than swing more?

The only time I get balls called for strikes is when I've nailed the pitch (i.e. gotten the green circle to flash). If I'm pitching poorly, I'll get strikes called as balls. You might just need to raise the difficulty of the pitching meter.

That reminds me, this game basically comes down to two sliders: the total-control pitching interface slider and the AI skill slider. I've found that the contact and power sliders for the AI don't really do jack. I've been playing with both of them maxed. AI skill, on the other hand, seems to determine everything. With it set low enough (like zero) they'll miss almost everything they swing at, even with contact at 100. But here's the thing: they'll still crush the hell out of bad pitches.

In turn, the idea seems to be that you have to have the TCP slider as high as you can stand it; not so high where all you're doing is throwing meatballs, but not so low that you can hit all your spots. (For me this number is around 62.) Once you've found that, now go put the AI skill slider at a nice low number (I think mine is at 10 or 12) until you're seeing the proper mix of Ks and BBs. I know I've allowed a lot of walks - like I might even be leading the league.

Oh, and on-topic: yeah I totally have all the take-ball sliders at zero. Guys chase junk all the time.
