How to get CPU to swing at balls?
I have used a variety of sliders from this board, and this is the only real problem I have with any of them. I can't seem to get the CPU to chase in any count. They won't swing at balls but they will swing and miss at strikes. Right now, I have all the AI take strike sliders near 100, but the AI take ball sliders I have tried various settings (all more than 50). I have set them this way as it seems to me, the CPU doesn't take enough pitches overall. They swing at too many pitches but won't ever chase pitches out of the strike zone. Anyone have some good settings for this?Last edited by bulls23; 04-01-2008, 01:25 AM.Tags: None -

I currently stopped using that set and am now using trinities to test his but ill probably go back to my take ball slider set.
Try poker's suggestion too.Last edited by BigL; 04-01-2008, 09:13 AM.Comment

EDIT: Sorry, I misread your post. Anyway, the above applies to the OP: lower them sliders!Last edited by baa7; 04-01-2008, 09:11 AM.Comment

If it's still an issue, why is that one slider at 40? Take them all down to 0, which is what I did. Try that. I'm not saying it'll get the results you're looking for, but check it out. After that, it would be a matter of editing player ratings.

Re: How to get CPU to swing at balls?
I understand, but the sliders are not working very well this year. When you have to set sliders at 0 just to get semi-realistic results, something is wrong. Maybe the take balls sliders work better than the take strikes... I don't know because I just lowered them all to 0 and like what I'm seeing so far.Comment

Anyone ever think of just editing all player ratings to 100 for walks??? It may help, may not when getting a realistic amount of walks.Comment

Re: How to get CPU to swing at balls?
That reminds me, this game basically comes down to two sliders: the total-control pitching interface slider and the AI skill slider. I've found that the contact and power sliders for the AI don't really do jack. I've been playing with both of them maxed. AI skill, on the other hand, seems to determine everything. With it set low enough (like zero) they'll miss almost everything they swing at, even with contact at 100. But here's the thing: they'll still crush the hell out of bad pitches.
In turn, the idea seems to be that you have to have the TCP slider as high as you can stand it; not so high where all you're doing is throwing meatballs, but not so low that you can hit all your spots. (For me this number is around 62.) Once you've found that, now go put the AI skill slider at a nice low number (I think mine is at 10 or 12) until you're seeing the proper mix of Ks and BBs. I know I've allowed a lot of walks - like I might even be leading the league.
Oh, and on-topic: yeah I totally have all the take-ball sliders at zero. Guys chase junk all the time.I am become death
Do not underestimate my apathy
