    Stealing

Ok... The "stealing bases" needs serious work...What are everyones settings at? Or has anyone settled on a good baserunner speed and catcher throw out success yet? If so...Please post who's set you are using..Thanks...This is the only thing I haven't nailed down.

I have my baserunning speed set to 100 and still have problems stealing bases with Taveras (99 speed rating). I don't even attempt it anymore - unless I have a big lead (score-wise).

One factor you might want to try is to lower the pitch speed.

It's a travesty that it's almost impossible to steal bases with base stealers in a damn baseball game.

With base running speed at 100 the only way you are going to steal a base is if you get a 3 stride lead and the pitcher doesnt look you back and you get a perfectly timed jump on the pitcher. I mean the jump has to be PERFECT, if you are a tad late you are going to be nailed out.

        Its way too hard.

I steal bases on pro. Some pitchers are just too fast to the plate, and situationally you may be in a no-win situation.

There's a reason why steals have declined so dramatically in the past ten years or so. Pitchers have simply gotten harder to steal on.

Or many teams are built around power and don't like to play small-ball.

I actually love how hard teh base stealing is now, they put a huge emphasis on getting a good jump, just like in real life if you get a bad jump you are not stealing the bag unless its a poor throw. Ive been getting better at getting good jumps lately and ive started to steal bases.

I thought base stealing was broke, but its actually pretty darn realistic how hard it is.

i really haven't had a problem w/ stealing, but like BigL said, u have 2 get a 3 stride lead off the bases. i've stolen 7 out of 9 bases w/ Brian Roberts, so i'm seeing a pretty good success rate wtih him. i've even stole 3rd twice w/ my created player (myself) who has probably a 92-95 speed rate. it also depends on what pitch is being thrown to the plate. you're more likely to be thrown out on a fastball than a curveball thrown to the plate. if you get your 3 step lead off the bag & hit the "Y" & then up on "LS" stick, then your runner will take off on 1st motion by himself. i'm stealing bases so frequent that my singles are like doubles w/ certain players b/c i'm stealing when i get the chance.

I'll have to try that "Y"/up on "LS". I constantly base my jump on counting to 5, and sometimes it's perfect sometimes I get into a pickle.

If this automates my runner to take off at the exact time the pitcher makes his move to the plate then this will be awesome.

Some SPs easy to steal off of:

                  Dave Bush
                  Odalis Perez
                  Cole Hamels
                  Chris Young.

EDIT: QBan...you're playing 2K9 and doing this right? Because I just realized you could what you stated in 2K8, but never thought it was available in 2K9.

no i'm sorry, i'm actually playing 2K8! i played 2K9 & was not happy w/ it @ all. ended up going 2 Game Crazy & bought 2K8 for $15. i was having issues w/ throwing, esp trying to complete double plays. + i hated the fact that you could give created players different batting stances. but that was minor.

yeah, i thnk Visual Concepts dropped the ball this year on MLB 2K9. IMO, 2K8 is a lot better than this year's version. & honestly i think w/ them (Visual Concepts) not coming out w/ a College Hoops this year, has got me wondering 'about their future, at least w/ sports. 1st EA bullies them out of NFL football, next they don't come out w/ a College Hoops basketball & now this year's MLB 2K9 IMO sucked. i wish they would've had MLB The Show for the 360.

From what I can tell, pitch speed, baserunner speed have to do with stealing. Having pitch speed above 90 makes it nearly impossible without a bad throw.

Also, you have to utilize the directional sliding to steal bases. If the throw goes to the left of 2nd base, slide to the OF side. Sliding straight in equals an out almost 100% of the time.

Right on the left stick and X to slide to the OF side of 2nd base, left on the left stick and X to slide towards the pitchers mound. Works wonders.

as for 2K8 users, if you adjust the steal succes a few clicks to the right, it will increase the CPU lead & you find that they will start to steal more bases. i adjusted mine while playing against the Red Sox & Pedroia attempted 2 stolen bases. & this is 2 more than any team i played in the last 20+ games. i may have to start my franchise all over again now that i'm starting to get the CPU to attemp steals
