Strike % (called and swinging): 62%
Looking Strike % (out of all pitches): 28%
Swinging Strike % (misses - out of all pitches): 15%
Foul Strike % (all fouls - out of all pitches): 27%
Swing % (out of all pitches): 45%
Contact rate (fouls + balls in play): 80%
Strike on 1st pitch %: 58%
Strikeouts looking (aka called 3rd strike out of all K's): 25%
So basically, this should be your average line score for an average team:
4-5 runs, 9 hits, 6 singles, 2 doubles/triples, 1 HR, 3-4 BB, 7 K's
Pitchers should throw ~62% strikes (including swings on pitches out of the zone)
Pitchers should throw ~58% of their first pitches as strikes
1/4 of all K's should be looking
~80% of all swings should result in some form of contact
Again, to test your sliders to see if they are producing this kind of result, make sure to take an average of a minimum of 15 games (there were 38.5 plate appearances per game last season so 15 games at this rate would be 577 total team plate appearances). I would do all your evaluations in sets of 5 games to insure you go through your entire pitching rotation. So if 15 games are too few, then don't make an evaluation until after 20 games.
I hope this helps you guys. I'll be working on sliders of my own using these numbers.
