    NLD230's Dynasty Sliders

    Sliders Updated: 4-11-10

Edit: You cannot unlock achievements with these sliders.

Here is my final set. I won't be making any changes unless I get the sense from the community that they are needed.

My goal: to get realistic RESULTS from games.
    1. Pitching should be a challenge. It should feel special when you throw a shutout (haven't seen one yet). You should see your ace get lit up every once in a while. YOU SHOULD NOT BE ABLE TO THROW 100% STRIKES AND COME AWAY WITH ONLY A FEW HITS.

    2. Batting should be about working the count and getting a good pitch to hit. If you swing at everything, hello shutout. If you are patient, advance runners, manufacture runs, you will get your runs.

    Re: NLD230's Dynasty Sliders

    First, some franchise game results.

Cardinals (me) vs Reds, opening day.

    Carpenter vs. Volquez

I lost 7-0. Volquez threw a complete game 2-hitter. I drew one walk on four pitches. Personally, I felt this wasn't a great show of patience by myself. I chased pitches I shouldn't have and took pitches I shouldn't have.

On the pitching side, I surrendered 7 runs, 5 of them in the 5th inning on a three run home run by Jay Bruce being the big hit.

That was the anomaly game, I think, because I came back to take the series 2-1.

      Re: NLD230's Dynasty Sliders

I also did some "MY PLAYER" testing, if that applies. I played a total of 41 games at AA as a RF.

In those 167 ABs, I had.....

48 hits, with 12 of them doubles and 3 home runs.

      26 to 8 K:BB ratio

      a .287/.335/.413 line (.748 OPS)

I also stole one base in 14 attempts.

Keep in mind that these stats are based on a player who was a

65 OVR when called up, with contact and power mostly right around the 55-60 mark. At 55-60, I should be hitting .250-.260, with a homer every 40-50 ABs.

I got good results out of the My player mode. After about 30 games, I was hitting somewhere around .230/.290/.295... terrible. But then I hit a hot streak.

        Re: NLD230's Dynasty Sliders

I have decided to give these sliders a try,

        Here are my Stats:
        Phillies (Me) Vs Cardinals

        Hamels Vs. Penny

I Won, 6-3. I got 9 Hits, While the computer put together 11.
I Was down for most of the game, Hamels pitched a pretty good game. I worked the count pretty good, getting a decent amount of hitters counts (2-1, 1-1 3-1) Also drawing two walks, one to Ibanez and the other to Ruiz. Also I pitched pitches on outside corners not always in the strike zone, made some chase the ball (Put together 5k's) The game started off rough for me, They pieced together 4 hits for 2 runs in the 2nd inning (Hit & RBI by pitcher ) But in the bottom of the 2nd I hit a solo shot with Utley. Pitching mistake in the 5th when I placed a fastball a little to high and Molina took me deep so i was down 3-1 til the Bottom 6. When Penny beaned rollins to lead the inning off, follwed by a RBI double by Werth. Then intentionally walking Howard, Worked a great 3-1 count with utley and he hits a huge 3 run homer. Penny's day was over. After that i shut down the Cards offense, they had singles here and there putting pressure on me in the 8th with back to back singles, but shut them down.

I like these sliders very much, seems like the computer can piece together more then one hit an inning and even start rallies, while me at the same time can do the same. Pitching is good, not to easy but not to hard, just have to be careful pitching not always pitching in the strike zone.

I am going to play a few more games and see what happens
But as of right now I love them, they are by far my favorite.

        Good Job nld230

          Re: NLD230's Dynasty Sliders

Thank you for the feedback. Glad you enjoyed them.

Minor updates. Going to lower throw meter influence to 0, and raise baserunner speed to 65.

What I'm working on now is more of the little things, like baserunning, stealing, etc.

As for baserunning, I hope that lowering the throw meter influence will help out on some minor issues. It's very hard to go first to third on singles, even with fast baserunners. Even a Molina brother would have marginal success going first to third on a soft hit up the middle.

I also raised baserunner speed to 65. This is a 15% increase from default sliders, but it still didn't really fix some of the problems.

As for stealing..... it's almost impossible to do unless you have a 90+ speed guy.

I did some testing in the "drills" for stealing....

Jacoby Ellsbury. I stole 2nd 10 out of 10 times with him, and third 2 out of 5 times. Ellsbury is one of the best rated speed guys in the game, so with him, stealing should be possible.

However, with Erick Aybar (speed and acceleration in the low 80s), I was successful only 2 out of 10 times stealing 2nd, and I believe that one was a missed tag and the other was an offspeed pitch.

My early conclusions are that stealing can be successful under the following conditions:

You have a burner at first base: Willy Taveras, Ellsbury, etc...
--You can steal with decent success against anyone, but especially those with a slow stretch delivery.

You have a guy with decent speed and acceleration (80s)....
-1. You have to get a good pitch to run on. Most often on fastballs, you will be gunned down.
          2. OR, you need a guy with a slow stretch delivery.

You have a guy with average speed (mid 70s)
          1. You need a pitch to hit the dirt and bounce away from the catcher.
          2. You need a bad throw to 2nd (I have yet to see one)

I wouldnt' go so far to say stealing is broken, but for your 10-20 steal guys, it's not going to be easy with these sliders.

            Re: NLD230's Dynasty Sliders

Nice to hear that you have tested the sliders with baserunning more into depth because few people have done this so fair, and seeing your results they all make sense, even when I used your sliders you started with i was still able to steal a few bags, mind you Rollins and Victorino both have mid 90's speed so it wasnt that hard to steal the bags, but also i managedn to steal two bags with Utley who has about 85 speed, but also I am very good at timing the pitchers and when they are going to pitch, i wait a few pitches and estimate his throw time.

But also like you said, the slower the pitchers delivery, (usually slower in relievers and closers)it is a lot easier to steal.

But thanks for the research keep up the good job

              Some more MY PLAYER stats....

22 games at the MLB level thus far.

              23 of 86, .267 batting average.

              .300 OBP and .360 slugging

2 homers and 2 doubles. My player is a 71 overall currently, with straight 70s across the board in terms of contact and power.

Over a full year (500 ABs), I'm looking at only 12 homers. But, the sample size is still pretty small.

                Re: NLD230's Dynasty Sliders

I decided to restart my franchise with some roster edits and minor tweaks. I figured I'd stick with the Cards, as they were my team. I will, however, keep the three games from before on my spreadsheet and average the numbers including those games.

                First series against the Reds.

                Game 1 batting
                38 ABs
                16 hits
                2 doubles
                0 homers
                2 walks
                8 strikeouts
                11 runs

                Game 2 battings
                36 ABs
                12 hits
                0 doubles
                2 homers
                0 walks
                7 Ks
                4 runs

                Game 3 batting
                32 ABs
                7 hits
                2 doubles
                2 homers
                2 walks
                5 Ks
                5 runs

Including my other three games, these sliders, on average, have produced an average of
                33.83 ABs
                9.67 hits
                1.17 doubles/triples
                1.67 home runs
                1.50 walks
                1.67 Ks
                5.67 runs

                per game.

                The pitching side:

                Game 1 pitching:
                39 ABs
                16 hits
                3 2B/3B
                1 HR
                0 BB
                3 K
                4 R

                Game 2 pitching
                36 ABs
                12 hits
                0 2B/3B
                0 HR
                1 BB
                7 K
                1 R

                Game 3 pitching
                32 ABs
                8 hits
                0 doubles/triples
                0 homers
                0 walks
                6 Ks
                0 runs

My 6 games have produced a user pitching line of
                34.50 ABs
                12.00 hits
                1.33 2B/3B
                0.5 HR
                0.83 BB
                5.33 K
                3.17 R

The only issue I seem to be experiencing is that even giving up so many hits, the CPU isn't scoring. But it could be that the shutout is throwing off my results.

                My runs allowed each game: 7, 6, 1, 4, 1, 0.... pretty fair mix.

                    Re: NLD230's Dynasty Sliders

Just played my first post-patch franchise 3 game series. I wasn't sure if I had to restart my franchise for the patch to work, and I had the newest roster update, so I once again began on opening day... I'm very pleased with the results.

I use the Cardinals, btw, so if anyone who plays with other teams could give me some impressions, it would be much appreciated.

                    Game 1 vs. Cincinatti

My bats came alive in the first vs Arroyo. 5 hits, 3 runs. Carpenter pitched a solid game, allowing only 1 run on a solo shot by Jay Bruce. Ryan Ludwick added a two run shot amidst a late inning pile on. My pen would surrender another one (rbi single off Jason Motte), but I held on to win 8-2.

                    Reds: 2 runs on 10 hits (2 2B, 1 HR) and 4 Ks to only 1 walk.
                    Cards: 8 runs on 14 hits (3 2B, 1 HR) and 12 Ks to 1 walks (I got a bit aggressive)

                    Game 2 vs. Harang
Nail biter. Wainwright and Harang matched each other pitch for pitch. Scoreless into the 6th inning before the Reds scrapped together a walk, a single, and an RBI double to take a 1-0 lead. They held that lead to the 9th. My Cards got people on but couldn't get them in. Finally, in the 9th, I managed to single with runners on first and second with 2 outs. The runner was out at third, but the run scored in time to tie it up. In the 10th, I blooped a single into right field with my pinch hitter, Joe Mather. A fielder's choice, a strikeout, and my created player, a 2B with 95 contact and 70 power, battled to a 3-2 count. I sent the runner on the pitch and took ball 4 (almost having a heart attack in the process. very close) That brought up Mr. Pujols, who deposited a 3-1 pitch over the right field wall for a go ahead 3 run homer. I brought in Frankling for the save. He allowed one runner before locking it down. Best game yet.

                    Reds: 1 run on 12 hits (1 2B), 6 Ks to 1 walk.
Cards: 4 runs on 10 hits (1 double, 1 homer) 11 Ks to 1 walk.

                    Game 3 vs. Volquez
Edinson Volquez flat out shut me down. I managed only 2 singles (both belonging to Colby Rasmus) and 2 walks. Volquez went the distance. The Reds scored both of their runs in the 5th on a Jay Bruce two run shot off Kyle Lohse. That's all they would get or need. I swiped two bags with players with 84 speed (my created 2B and Colby Rasmus), but Colby's steal was on a breaking ball that went to the backstop. I got a perfect jump with my created player and there wasn't even a throw (would have been safe by miles). Volquez is easy to steal on, but it's nice to see that I could get steals.

Reds: 2 runs on 8 hits (1 homer) 3 Ks to 0 walks
Cards: 0 runs on 2 hits (no XBH), 6 Ks to 2 walks

Next up is the Brew Crew. I'm loving my results so far. Have some minor concerns about the homer totals over the course of a full year (I plan to play 162), and of course there are no errors or injuries, but post patch I don't think I need to make any tweaks just yet.

                      Re: NLD230's Dynasty Sliders

                      Minor changes.

CPU sac bunt tendency from 35 to 70. I was seeing pitchers swing away with no outs and a runner on first almost every time.

CPU steal success from 60 to 50. When Molina can't get a moderate speed guy at third with a good throw....

I have no fixes for human bunt success and contact. These sliders must be for drag bunting, because no matter what, if the pitch is a strike, you can lay down a perfect sac bunt and sometimes even beat it out.

Working on my next series results. Hope to post them by tonight.

                        Re: NLD230's Dynasty Sliders

Well, I just completed a very frustrating 3 game set with the Brewers. I lost the series, 2-1.

                        Game 1
I couldn't figure out Dave Bush, if that's possible. Just too hard to tell the difference between his fastball and curve. The result was me barely putting up a fight. My first run scored on a sac fly that was aided by a catcher's error (my player got the RBI, but was also charged with an out because of the error). I got a garbage time solo shot with Ludwick (leading my team with 3 homers), but little else.

Cards: 2 runs on 8 hits, (2 doubles, 1 homer) 12 Ks and no walks
Brewers: 6 runs on 13 hits (2 doubles, 1 homer) 9 Ks and 2 walks

                        Game 2
Pitched my first shutout (not a complete game though)... Jaime Garcia (I had to create him from Willis Fountain in the Cards minor leagues; edited him to a 67 overall) was my best starter of the year. 6 2/3 IP, 4 hits, 2 walks, no runs. My pen locked down the shutout as I got the only run I needed on a Pujols solo shot.

Cards: 1 run on 7 hits (0 doulbes, 1 homer), 8 Ks to zero walks
Brewers: No runs on 5 hits (no XBH), 4 Ks and 2 BBs

                        Game 3
Gallardo pitched a near perfect 8 IP shutout on me. I matched him pitch for pitch until the 6th. With Chris Carpenter dealing, I surrendered a double to put runners on 2nd and 3rd with 1 out. Fielder and Braun due up. I pitched around Fielder, but he chased some bad pitches and K'd. With Braun up and a base open, I tried the ole unintentional intentional walk....mistake. I hung a 3-2 fastball that he put over the right center field wall for a 3-0 lead.

Cards: 1 run on 4 hits (1 double, no homers), 13 Ks, no walks
Brewers: 3 runs on 8 hits (1 double, 1 homer), 5 Ks, no walks

I'm currently sitting a .500 after 6 games. I'm pretty anemic on offense. A .222 average and getting just 0.89 baserunners per inning. Me cutting down on some aggressiveness would really help.

Pitching stats look excellent: Opponents are hitting .281 off me, 1.19 baserunners per inning....

Scoring is down on both sides.

                          I've made a few discoveries.....

the pitcher "stamina/fatigue" slider (found in game settings) has a major effect on this game. I tried a few games at fatigue "0"....still got some hits, but without the pitcher's wearing down offense was really suppressed. When raised to "100" your pitchers get worn out so quickly that they end up getting bombed.... something to consider.

Having trouble with scoring. I'm getting great hit numbers (around 9 hits per game, 2 of them 2B or 3B and about 1 homer), but the runs allowed is around the high 2s, low 3s mark. League average should be somewhere in the low to mid 4s.
                          What could be causing this?
-walks. increasing the walk totals would lead to more baserunners.
-rocket arms. I hardly ever see first to third, even with speed at 65. The arms are cutting down on an extra base taken. A one out single with a runner on first should, in most cases, push the runner to third with one out, where it doesn't require a hit to score them.
-no errors. Another 75-120 baserunners per season doesn't sound like much, but that could also represent unearned runs and bases taken. Not to mention it gives an extra out.

If 2k could fix these issues (walks is the only one that would be difficult. User walks, I mean), we might not have to sacrifice realistic hit totals to get better scoring.....

I'm going to experiment with stamina at 45, increase CPU power and contact, and raising composure influence to see if I can generate more runs without impacting the hit totals. But I'll leave the sliders where they are, for now.

                            Re: NLD230's Dynasty Sliders

In an effort to increase scoring, I've modified the sliders... I'll be restarting a test franchise soon to get some more results.

                            The big changes:

I turned human composure influence up. A lot. I'm hoping that the result will be more big innings. Before it seemed like I was getting consistently one or two baserunners per inning but very little scoring other than home runs.

I upped CPU composure one click. My offense was slightly anemic. It wasn't awful, but walks were almost too difficult to draw.

I also upped the CPU batting power by one click. These are very testy, so I'm not completely sure about this one. But I'm trying to work around the pinpoint control issue. Having the threat of more extra base hits should make me throw pitches out of the zone a bit more.

I raised the sac bunt tendency one click. Still seeing too many pitchers swing away (I think this is an AL game. So many aspects of NL strategy were left out (double switching a pinch hitter into the game, pitchers bunting)

I also raised fielder speed for the CPU by one click, hoping to cut down on doubles by my side (I was getting 4 per game; league average is less than 2)

With speed at 65, I was able to steal a base with Albert Pujols off of Dave Bush (curve).... Also, it's not automatic to go first to third, or to score from first on a double, but it IS possible. So I think the baserunner speed at 65 is a fixture for now.

One thing I've noticed is the aggresssion issue.....

pitchers with contact and power in the 30s see nothing but strikes, while Pujols will see a lot of pitches out of the zone. It seems that the opposing pitcher will factor the batter's ability in how often he throws a strike.

In addition, with CPU contact slider at 60, they were almost passive at the plate. At 65, they seem to be a bit more aggressive on strikes.

Hopefully upping the power will help with pitch counts. I'm hit or miss with pitch counts (user). I had one game where I threw 65 pitches with Chris Carpenter through 4 innings, but the next game I had 23 through 4 Innings with Wainwright....

Well, hope you guys have some more success with these.
