Suggestion for tuning pitch control slider

I was messing around with the Control and velocity drill. I wanted to see jut how bad I was with the current setting of 25 for pitch control. The drill gives you a target of two squares side-by-side to hit. Sometimes they are horizontal, sometime vertical.

At 25, I hit my spot one time, with fastball. That is in 15 tries, three each with five different pitches. So I bumped it up to 100 and hit my spot 15/15 times.

I dropped down to 50, and I still hit my spot 14/15 times.

I dropped to 35, and it was drastically worse. I hit 2/3 on my fast ball and curveball, Carp's best pitches. But I hit just 1/3 on the 2 seam, slider, and change-up.

At 30, it dropped down to 2/3 on the fastball, and I hit just three more pitches the rest of the way.

Now, this is just for hitting the spot. Many of my misses were still strikes. But this seems like a really good way to really get a feel for what kind of effect you will see. I was pleased to see that the sliders had a decent progression, and made a nice difference.

Re: Suggestion for tuning pitch control slider

    Thanks for that info.

I myself use 35 (in franchise mode) and usually yield 2-6 walks per game. Through 45 games this year, I have issued 133 bb's (2.95 per gm). Most of the time I intentionally or unintentionally walk a man or 2 per game depending on the situation, add in the walk or 2 that I had no intention to issue and I average 3 a gm.

Even at 35, it seems like I cant hit the k-zone sometimes, but for the most part I would rather have more control over throwing balls, then intentional balls ending up over the plate to often. Does that make sense?

Very useful. I play with it @ 30 and it still seems a bit random to me, but I keep it there so that the CPU offense is a challenge to face. I think I average around 60% strikes, which is close to the MLB average (62%) @ 30 over the course of an average game.

I noticed if I overthrow on my pitch meter, the ball seems to go over the plate more times than not.
