KP's MLB 2K12 Custom Sliders for Franchise (Between All-Star and Legend).

    Hello,

These are my Custom Difficulty Sliders. They are meant to offer realistic stats for your franchise while providing a genuine challenge.

You will find these sliders to combine elements of All-Star difficulty for the USER hitting, fielding, and running. While the CPU will enjoy All-Star to Legend difficulty for these same categories. Pitching will be near Legend for both the USER and CPU. The idea behind this was to provide a great challenge to pitching for the USER while producing a challenge for USER batting through the CPU enjoying Legend pitching. The amount of hits and walks you will give up is not for the faint of heart. But then again, neither is it for a real life pitcher. Hitting will be a challenge as well so be sure to have at least a couple sluggers if you want to succeed.

Remember, difficulty is relative to the skill of the gamer. If you find these sliders either too easy or too hard, feel free to adjust the "batters eye" slider up or down between 0 and 35 to give you more or less of a crutch while hitting. Obviously if you prefer not to use it at all set it to 0.

I ask that if you use these sliders, to play with them for at least 5 full games. (a chance for all 5 guys in your rotation to pitch) After that make minor adjustments if you see fit. And feel free to post results here for feedback! (just note any changes you have made)

I have noticed many custom sliders advise setting the injury slider down to 15. I think this is too low. I also think the default of 50 is too high so I have settled on 30. This will mean injuries will hamper you down and even ruin a season at times. But that is baseball. It will also force you to keep decent backups in AAA, which provides more immersion. My advice is to hire a good scout and draft smart as early as possible. Also make sure your AA and AAA managers have at least 75+ "teaching" skill. Spend money on Staff. Dont cheap out there.

I will also provide batting/pitching camera recommendations, but these are just preference. Furthermore it does not matter If you prefer swing stick or button hitting as both will work with these sliders and produce the same results. And any presentation/profile settings obviously have no impact either.

I also want to thank MKharsh33 and BigFnJoe96. I have used their sliders for different games for years and they have provided lots of inspiration for how mine ended up. I also recommend MKharsh's custom rosters if you are a Xbox360 user. They can be found on 2K Share.

    SO without further adieu...

Re: KP's MLB 2K12 Custom Sliders for Franchise (Between All-Star and Legend).

Just a suggestion, I would lower infield throw speed for both, CPU and USER. With 50, deep grounders hit and diving stops won't end in a batter being safe. It will always end in an out for both user and cpu. But other than that these sliders look to be alright.

I did have it at 45 for a while. But I was getting too many infield hits with players in the 75-80 speed range. With it at 50 (which is default) I only get infield hits with guys 85+ in speed, and almost never with 75 speed guys like I was before.

So this was a concious decision. I almost wish I could set to 47 or 48, but you can only adjust with increments of 5

But remember, I have baserunner speed increased to 45 from default 40 to counteract this. Furthermore I lowered infield speed to 15 to further counteract this as well as reduce how effective infield diving is.

Another reason I set it to 50 was I wasnt getting enough double plays at 45. (should average 1 per team per game)

Thats why I ended up at 50.

If you try them I'll be interested to see how they work out for you!

Question: My understanding is custom sliders play differently depending on which difficulty level one initially sets their sliders at before adjusting. Did you start out on All Star or Legend before adjusting these?

          Thats a very good point.

Yes these should be entered in by starting on All-Star. I'll be sure to correct my first post, as I meant to include this but I forgot.

Re: KP's MLB 2K12 Custom Sliders for Franchise (Between All-Star and Legend).

I made some changes on the first page.

            1) I lowered user batting power from 55 to 50. I have two test franchises going with the Red Sox and Indians. In both I have played 20 + games, and in those games my doubles and HR's were slightly high, and I was at the top of the leage team stats when I really shouldnt be, so I adjusted this down slightly. Both teams have some power, so I should be hitting HR's.. just not this much. The Indians should be in the middle of the pack, and Red Sox in the top 6 teams. I had the Sox at rank 2, and Indians ranked 7. So this should make power hitting more realistic for USER teams.

            2) I lowered CPU batting power from 80 to 70. I did this for similar reasons. After these 40 played games between the 2 test franchises... I was giving up too much power hitting. In my Red Sox franchise my team ERA is 4.5 with the most 2B's given up and among the worst in HR's given up. So by lowering CPU power a few more of those 2B's 3B's and HR's will be fly-outs instead, which will in turn lower my sky-high ERA as well as CPU power numbers.

            3) I have lowered pitch speed from 75 to 70. I did this because of its affect on stealing. I decided to run a test on stealing. I used exhbition games with, Ellsbury, Pedroia, and Crawford. All fast runners. I intentionally walked them, then switched teams to try and steal over and over with each speedy guy. After 30 attempts I was getting caught 30% of the time with pitch speed at 70 and CPU catcher arm strenght/accuracy at 50. SO... since that is close to what the Red Sox did in real life over all of last year... 70 it is. DO NOT ADJUST PITCH SPEED FROM 70.

            4) I lowered USER throw errors and raised CPU throw errors. After my 40 games in my test franchises I was leading the league in errors with both of my test teams... yikes! (Mostly from throwing errors.) So I lowered this to 50 from 55 and it seems fine now. The CPU wasnt getting enough throwing errors against me, so I upped them to 45 from 40.

KP, how many hits and Ks per game are you recording with your SPs?

I can usually get anywhere from 4 to 10 K's with a SP depending on their skill and the team batting against me. Last night I got 8 with Josh Beckett against Texas. However the previous game I got shelled with Bucholz against Texas and only got 3 or 4 K's. (suprise surprise)

Are you seeing too many K's or not enough?

As for hits my team has one of the worse BAA's in the league.. but the Red Sox have such a lousy bull-pen (most of my pen is rated in the 70's) so a lot of my opponent hits come from my aweful bull-pen and not from my SP's. To me this makes sense since the Red Sox bull pen in real is also aweful.

I generally let up between 6 to as many as 13 hits per game depending on the team I'm playing. I am 3 weeks into a brand new Red Sox franchise and so far there has been just 1 game where I kept the opposing team to 0 runs. Again this has a lot to do with my lousy bull-pen.

I have lowered User batting power from 50 to 45. And User bunting contact from 40 to 35.

This makes all User hitting catagories equal to "All-Star" minus 5 points. Im getting very realistic results with this. I made this change a while ago, but wanted to play 7 or 8 games with the minor change to make sure it would have a realistic impact.

You should raise pitch speed to max gives a realistic look of pitch speeds.

Well, I haven't been playing as much lately...

But with just 7 games into a new Red Sox Franchise I started I have 3 HR's and 9 Doubles and 1 Triple. I'm batting .278 as a team and have scored 21 runs total. (I got completely shut out by Verlander to start the season, or else I might be doing slightly better)

In an Indian's franchise I have decent looking power numbers 6 weeks in. Even though their hitters are not as good as the Red Sox. However I made the aforementioned power changes I mentioned several posts above half way through and simmed several of the games. So this wouldn't be a good example.

I know you might see 45 power and think... "I'll never hit HR's or Doubles with this guys sliders!!"... But keep in mind that I use a 40 contact rating which is higher than most people's sliders, this inherently causes more HR's and Doubles. And my hitting sliders are basically "All-Star" level slider minus 5 points for each difficulty rating. This puts hitting somewhere between All-Star and Legend, plus the CPU enjoys Legend pitching ratings. So hitting will NOT be easy.. you will need a couple sluggers if you want power numbers.

Also, I use power swings whenever I am even or ahead (If you use "classic button" hitting the game does this automatically). I'm not sure of your play style... but... if you only ever use "contact" or "defensive" swings you won't hit as many HR's...

Try em for 5 full games... I think you'll like 'em!

                          First off make sure;
--Pitch out of the zone while ahead in the count.
--Save your best pitches as "strikeout pitches" for when you have 2 strikes.
--Lastly; alternate alternate alternate. Always alternate fast and off-speed pitches

(Just in case you arent doing that stuff already because these sliders arent for the faint of heart.)

As far as the slider themselves... my inclination would be to tell you to lower CPU contact by 5 (to 65). And raise CPU power by 5 (to 75) to get more K's while not sacrificing the CPU's BA and RBI's too much. But you then might see too few singles by the CPU as their batters will often either K out or crank it deep for a double, triple, or HR with its increased power.

                          Before you try chainging things... let me ask you;

--How many K's on ave are you getting with medium and low rated OVR pitchers? (guys rated 74 and lower)
--How many with good pitchers? (75-85)
                          --Or elite guys (86+)

I only ask because on average even the very best pitchers only get like 6-7 K's per game.

So with most guys in MLB 2K12 you're really only supposed to get 3 or 4 K's a game.

I changed user pitcher control from 30 down to 25. I was not giving up enough accidental walks.

I changed CPU power from 70 to 80. I was not giving up enough HR's and ER's.

I changed user power from 45 to 50. I was not getting enough HR's and ER's.

I changed user bunting from 35 to 40. I was not getting enough contact on bunts, though results with contact were good.

(if anyone is listening.. or even still playing this game)
