Need help setting up AI pitcher's sliders.
I need sliders so that CPU pitchers don't have pinpoint control. I want the CPU to throw more balls, so that I can draw walks but at the same time give me a good challenge so that I can earn that walk. When I play it seems like the CPU hits the strike zone every time. I tried messing around with the sliders but I just can't seem to get it right. Can somebody help me out.Tags: None -
Re: Need help setting up AI pitcher's sliders.
I'd suggest making sure the AI Throw Strike sliders are in the 35-40 range. that's probably the most important thing to consider. And if you want to better distinguish between balls and strikes, lower AI Corner and AI Location. I have mine @ 10, but that's because I swing at anything near the plate and I need the extra help. -

i agree. the 35 to 40 range works real nice. i have the pitch speed at 42 because i have a similar problem with swinging. dont go below 35 or it gets ridiculous.Comment

Re: Need help setting up AI pitcher's sliders.
I'm a little late to this conversation but I think my slider set produces excellent results in balls/strikes thrown by the cpu...
Throw strike overall 22
Throw strike ahead 22
Throw strike behind 70
Set the AI corner, change speed, and location all to 50. That'll keep you guessing.
If you are patient you will get walks but at the same time you'll also find yourself going down looking.
As for walking the cpu.. there seems to be no way to accurately produce this. Using effort instead of kzone is a little better because you have a little less control but once you get used to that you'll find it far too easy to pitch in the strikezone whenever you need to.Last edited by deafheaven; 05-02-2005, 04:37 AM.Comment

Re: Need help setting up AI pitcher's sliders.
Originally posted by deafheavenI tested this out by editnig Ted Lilly of the Jays. Still nothing even close to a walk, even when I lowered all the control ratings to 1. That was using Kzone however. Are you using something other than kzone?
Baa7 uses Classic Pitching, with no-vibration & no pitch cursor. You will get more walks using Classic, Effort & Meter than you will using k-zone. Especially if you add No Pitching Cursor & No VibrationComment

Ok then... I was really trying to avoid player edits but this definitely seems worth the effort.
Joe, over at 2ksports you suggested changing the pitchers fielding ratings all down to 1. I tried that briefly and saw a lot of balls hit the pitcher and bounce off him resulting in a lot of infield singles. Are you seeing this also? If so I think I'll not do the fielding edits as my sliders have been producing fairly good results as far as the pitcher goes... no longer a vacuum out there.
Thanks in advance for the help
A little off target here too... but are you involved in any good online leagues. I've been having a heck of a time finding one where the games actually get played.Comment

Re: Need help setting up AI pitcher's sliders.
Playing with the pitch variability right now to find a balance between producing walks and being too much out of control. I'm pretty happy though. When you get behind in the count you are pretty much forced to throw more over the middle of the plate or risk a walk. Nice. Little things like throwing the high heat in tight and having the pitch get away from you and knocking the hitter down or sometimes even hitting him.
I did also edit the pitchers to have a 1 rating at range and jump/dive. I left their glove rating as is though. They are pretty much staying put on the mound (other than when they need to cover a base) but at the same time are still able to field balls that they should.
I stronly suggest to anyone who is wondering if they should bother doing player edits to do so at least with the pitchers. Only if you are willing to pitch with classic or effort though as it makes no difference using kzone.Comment

Re: Need help setting up AI pitcher's sliders.
Originally posted by deafheavenYup.. went to classic and it worked pretty well after I realized the variability had to be high rather than low. I did another test game by lowering the pitchers control by 50% and put the variability to 100. I ended up walking 5 batters and had 2 walks of my own WOO HOO!!!

As for online leagues leave your info in this thread:

And I found Kzone way to accurate regardless to the control rating edits. Plus I’m a Classic guy anyway, so I’m glad those edits work for that interface.Comment

baa7, any chance you could upload your roster with all the editing you've done, i'd really like to give it a try, thanks.Comment

Originally posted by baa7The P fielding rating edits are a must, I agree. Anticipation has to be lowered to below 10 from what I’ve seen: that’s the most important thing. I understand wanting to leave the Glove ratings up. I lowered mine to 15 and below with great results, so it’s really whatever feels right. And balls bounce off the P, but he still usually manages to recover and throw most batters out anyways.

User Contact 15, Power 50-55. I had Power @ 50 but that might too low for some given the lower Contact also means less HR's.
AI Skill 30, Contact 90, Power 45. If you're seeing too many K's, raise AI Skill.
Pitch Speed 40. Keep in mind though I dropped all individual pitch speeds by up to 8 mph, which means the ball doesn't look like it's traveling quite as fast.
Fielding and Baserunning Speed 40. Again, keep in mind I edited the speeds of my position players and nobody was lower than 40 speed. I'm also currently experimenting with baserunning speed @ 45, and might even bump that up to 50.
AI Throw Strikes all around 40.
AI Take Strikes all around 35; AI Take Balls all around 65. Again, I'm experimenting with those right now. I think I have them @ 25 and 75 at the moment.
AI Corner and AI Location 10. Makes it a lot easier to tell balls from strikes. They don't have to be this low; it just helps when playing with User Contact so low.Comment
