    About CPU Swing Frequency

I need to know what some of you guys have this set to. I have mine set on default and it seems like the CPU swings at everything in the strike zone. Don't get me wrong, maybe that's the way it should be but every once and awhile i'd like to see the CPU take a strike. Also, will maybe bumping up CPU Swing Frequency to say +5 or +10 allow for me to get more strikeouts? Any replies and help is greatly appreciated.

On MVP level I have it set at -13, I've seen the most common to be between -10 and -15

I messed with this setting a lot at first, but ended up putting it back to 0. I found when lowering it, they swung at few pitches out of the strike zone. Making it tough to get strike outs with anything off the plate. And raising it made them too aggressive. I agree, they are still a bit aggressive at default, but imo it's the best of the 3 options.

I hear you about that but do you think that maybe by either raising it or lowering like by a couple will result in more k's? I'm going to try this when i get home from work in the morning but i'd figured you would know since you've tinkered with this a bit.

Well, if you are playing on Pro, then I can help you out. I play on Pro too.

I have mine actually lowered to -23. I get some swinging strikeouts and some looking strikeouts. I actually average about 4-7 strikeouts a game. I'll reach 8 or 9 occasionally though. I also play with the Cincinnati Reds, and we don't have any pitcher who is very overpowering, so if you get a guy like Johan Santana who can flat out overpower you or make you look silly with the change, then you'll probably get more K's.

But it's all about setting up the count. If all you throw is strikes, then the CPU will start swinging more, because there's no sense in always going down 0-2. Plus, some of the best advice I ever heard was this: It's worth the walk if you are going for the strikeout. That means that if you want the K on a 3-2 count, then throw it just barely hitting the black. If it's a strikeout, congratulations, but if it's a walk, don't worry about it.

Hope this helps man. Come back with your results.

[EDIT] If you want, I'll post my sliders here if you want to see how my game plays. I actually did post them before in the MVP Section of slider, but they must've been deleted.

When I first started playing pro, I got clobbered by batters and gave up 2-3 homers a game. A lot of it because as I played rookie to get the ropes, I could throw everything in the strike zone and be fine. It took me a while to get used to getting behind in counts and sometimes 3-1, 3-0, but I think it's been the biggest key for me. Timely breaking balls have been huge for me as well, although I'm still working on my off-speed stuff. I had to learn to actually pitch and check my pitch history throughout the game. Against the Cardinals, I pitched the same thing to Scott Rolen every pitch for the first two at bats. The first AB was a one pitch ground out, the second was two pitches and he flew out, and the third he homered on the first pitch. So I check the pitch history on the 4th AB and see my error. I mixed it up and got the K. Good luck though, I'm sure it will click at some point.

I have noticed on pro the game plays better. The cpu will swing at stuff outside of the strike zone like in real life. On the higher levels they just swing in the strike zone.

I agree. I just recently switched to Pro from All-Star and the game plays much better, although it takes some tweaking to get the CPU to hit.

Amen to that. Every now and then I get an urge to go up to All-Star if I'm winning too much, but when I try it out it's just so frustrating because they know where the ball is going before it's pitched.
