    I guess I'm just not a good base-baller...

I still play MVP 04 b/c I love it (but not as much as High Heat 2004). However, I'm on my 3rd season (played all games, no simming), and I seem to be getting worse. I leave soooo many ducks on the pond, I should be managing a migratory waterfowl refuge. I try bunting, hit and run, sac flys to opposite field, working the count....nothing works. I typically outhit the cpu somewhere in the realm of 11-9, but lose probably on the average of 4-2. Proof of how I'm getting worse:

Season 1 as Devil Rays (80-82, no playoffs)
Season 2 as Phillies (96-66, no playoffs------lost division to Braves and Giants beat me for wild card-----still very bitter about this)
Season 3 as Indians (currently 35-57 and so far out of it I'm considering even finishing the season, but I know I will b/c I'm hard headed)

It hasn't taken the fun out of it for me.......I'd just like to make the playoffs sometime in my life.

You liked 04 better than 05?

I liked 04 myself, a lot, but I still own '05 I had so much fun with it.

I got frustrated with 05 b/c I thought that the cpu intentionally walked my players way too much. So, I didn't buy it and stuck with 04. I'd done so much roster and slider work with 04, I didn't have the heart to stop playing it.

        Re: I guess I'm just not a good base-baller...

Hah, I can kind of relate. I'm in the playoffs in my 3rd year with MVP 05 (no simming, just like you) and everytime I think I have the game figured out, I go on a losing streak. The game is challenging without having that feeling of cheating me to win.

My records by season with the Cincinnati Reds:
Year 1: 97-65, Won NL Central by 1 game over STL. I lost in the NLDS to the Phillies in 4 games.
Year 2: 88-74, missed the playoffs. Was 1 game out of the Wild Card to the Chicago Cubs, who went on to win the World Series.
Year 3: 107-55, Won NL Central. Beat LAD in NLDS 3-1, tied with STL in the NLCS 2-2 as of today.

So I had a pretty good year Year 1, then dipped Year 2. Year 3 has been unbelievable... I started off pretty average, just 4 games over .500 and hanging around in the NL Central while MIL and STL were tearing it up (didn't help I was 0-7 to start against MIL). Then I just went off. Ripped off an 18-8 June, followed by a good July and then 20+ wins in August and September to close it. The success has carried over to the playoffs somewhat, but still clearly it's a fight.

Ahh, I basically just spilled my love for my franchise. Hah, sorry.
