    I don't get it...

While 2K Sports has the exclusive licensing for the game, Sony is able to put out The Show and EA sits idling. It has been since 2005 when 2K got the licensing. When does the contract end or is EA waiting for 2K to fade into oblivion?

2k has third party rights for baseball so that boxes out EA. The agreement allows console makers to make a baseball game. That is why you see an offering from Sony.

So Microsoft should try to create a game then, right?

And a damn good offering at that.
I think if ea could make a new one with owner mode, updated graphics, same play from 2005, and my player mode it would be up to par or maybe better than mlb the show.

No it wouldn't. MVP's gameplay doesn't translate now a days...And it would animate terribly if only given a boost in graphics.

Microsoft in fact purchased the code and rights to High Heat when 3DO went under. They've sat on it.

Doesn't translate? MVP is basically a direct rip of almost everything MVP did. There are slight differences in the hitting mechanics, but otherwise, it's a carbon copy!

They stole the pitching meter from mvp. MVP isnt a bad thing to take ideas from.

I agree on both things you just said. I just don't consider it a " carbon copy " of MVP.

I meant in terms of mechanics. My point was that anyone who's accustom to MVP will have no trouble making the transition.

There's a slight difference in the hitting mechanic, the PCI. Take away the PCI and you're left with MVP's hitting system virtually intact. The pitch meter is almost exactly the same, the throwing meters for fielding are only different in their location and appearance.

I wrote a blog on this in fact, see my arena.

I see a lineage in baseball games, starting with High Heat on the PSone. It looked awful, but played beautifully. It remained the best baseball game on the market until MVP's 2nd or 3rd effort. I consider MVP '05 the "transition" from the old school that was High Heat to the HDGen, The Show. I think each of these games owe a lot to their predecessor.

One of the things I love about The Show is that is hasn't been shy about ripping off good ideas. You can tell the people who make The Show played the **** out of MVP in '05, and I'm glad they did. It helped them carry on MVPs legacy. I know they can't acknowledge that publicly, but I bet they would admit it directly if they could.

Calling it a carbon copy... yeah, too extreme, because certainly The Show has made many advances since. I meant specifically the mechanics though... clearly the rest of the game is far more advanced and the mechanics are better tuned (MVP was too forgiving in most cases).

Also I would say the Show is much more realistic than MVP and MVP was way to easy. MVP did a lot right and was my fav baseball game till the Show 09 and 10 but IMO the Show blows MVP away.

It is a sad thing, but I like MVP 2005 much more than MLB 2K10 too. The current development team for Visual Concepts does not understand the concept of baseball. Their interpretation of MLB is all f'd up.
