This is the greatest news ever. I really hope you can make progression work well. If not, at least you now have the tools to fix up a few more holes in the game.

On a sort of off-topic note, is it disappointing to anyone else that players don't improve in fielding at all? Position players only gain batting + speed, pitchers only gain in pitching. Fielding attributes stay the same from age 18 until they die.

Need to look into this because fielding ratings ARE in this file.

How can you extract files from the .big archives in MVPs data folder? I'm interested in tooling around with these things myself.

You can't get the csv's separately, but you can open the whole thing in Notepad, save as text, then get into Excel to make it much more manageable as a comma delimited file.

Maybe they don't progress until they are 31 and 45, respectively? The player progress screen never shows an increase in anything but batting/speed (position) and pitches (pitchers). I haven't simmed enough seasons so that the rookies I start out with end up 31 or 45 years old, but in all the seasons I've played I did not see an increase in fielding attributes on the progress screen.

Perhaps it would be worthwhile to note a rookie's fielding attributes when he first enters the league, then compare them to what he has at the end of the season after spring training + progression. It's possible they could be going up, albeit silently. Though this seems very unlikely since it's compeletely against all tenets of good game design.

It's pushing my roster work back, but getting to the bottom of this is pretty important (especially for the rosters to mean anything...minor leaguers don't matter if development is f'd up). I want to mess with the file and see if I can set parameters at EVERY age. this would essentially force a progression of sorts to get into the parameters I set.
