Re: MLB Starting Pitchers & What They Throw

My god, I'm sorry for posting anything at all.

I only took word for word what was written in the Sporting news Scouting Guide and tried to share its info with people who havn't had a chance to read the book. All of you wizzards know so much on your own that I wont waste my time posting anything else.

I guess you guys all know these pitchers personally and can drop a dime on them anytime and they'll tell you excactly what pitches they throw, cuz to be honest that is the only way anybody could be 100% accurate.

Whatever though, I'll learn to keep my mouth shut more often.

This is straight from the book bro.

3.Jason Schmidt, Giants
6-5, 205. B/T: R/R. Age: 31. 10th season
THROWS: Exploding four-seamer is 92-97 mph, sinker 88-95, two-seamer 93-95, cutter 92-93 and hard slider with a nasty bite 83-87. Best pitches are his fastballs.
TENDENCIES: Masterfully changes locations and speeds of his four-seamer and two-seamer. Likes to go inside to righthanders with his four-seamer. Starts to overthrow after pitch 85. Hides the ball well, making it difficult for hitters to pick up the release point, especially from the windup. Mechanics are excellent; does a good job of getting his hips through the ball.
OUTLOOK: Has dominant stuff and has learned to intimidate hitters with velocity, explosive life and command/control. Is a No. 1 or No. 2 starter anywhere for the forseable future, although he has a history of arm problems.

Sorry for lieing and posting a bunch of (FREE) crap nobody is interested in.....

Re: MLB Starting Pitchers & What They Throw

PooDiddy,I appreciate you posting the Sporting News info. I was just pointing out what I believe to be a rather blatant error on the part of Sporting News. Mike Hampton's bread and butter is his sinker. EA missed it, too.

"Hampton had built his riches upon the sinker, which pitching coach Mel Stottlemyre had shown him when they were together with the Astros in 1994. Hampton used it only occasionally and without confidence until 1997, when Houston manager Larry Dierker told him, "You can continue to be a .500 pitcher, but I know how you can become a better pitcher."

He told him to feature the sinker.

"I got waffled the first half of '97," Hampton says. "But I stuck with it and developed a real feel for it."
