Re: What's the point in arguing calls?

Actually lately in sports there are a lot of calls getting reversed. The trend is for the umpires to meet and discuss it in greater detail. As much as I complain about the refs and umpires, this has really improved pro sports.

Currently, the most commonly overturned call in baseball is the foul/fair home run ball, where another umpire had a better view.

The only calls that I have seen reversed were things like balls curving around the foul pole, where one ump gets a better look at it and overrules another.

I have never seen a close call at a base reversed where it is solely the call of one umpire with no help from anyone.

I have seen one, but only when the umpires were so wrong that it was brutal. It was aginst the jays last year or the year before. The umpires blew a call in the Jays favour. The other manager came out and calmly pointed out ther error in judgement, the umpires confrerenced for a while and actually changed the call. I was livid, as was Tosca, the manager at the time. he came out and yelled and yelled and yelled, was right in the umpires face. He argued for literally 5 minutes, yelling and screaming and waving his arms, and the umpire would not toss him. I had always thought that once a judgement call was made in baseball it was irreversable, but maybe if it has to do with a rule, then it is?? Anyway, funniest part was Tosca arguing until he basically was too tired to argue anymore and still not getting tossed. The announcers were having trouble trying to hold in their laughter.

It was because the HP umpire had a good view of it while the 1B ump was screened.

But Arod was called out due to interference.

But getting back to the original post.....a SB attempt at 2nd base.....the 2B ump makes a call, safe or out.....a straight up judgement call like that with no violation of the rules is NEVER reversed.
