Re: Cap Requests Welcome
Dallas Trahern
Position: Right Handed Pitcher Height: 6-3 Weight: 195
Born: 11/29/1985 Bats: Right Throws: Right
Background
Trahern enjoyed an exceptional senior season at Owasso High School in Oklahoma, splitting time as his staff ace and as the starting shortstop. Dallas knocked 13 homeruns and 54 RBI in 37 games, all while remaining undefeated (11-0) on the hill with a 1.37 ERA. All this combined, helped lead his high school squad to back-to-back state championships. After completing his outstanding high school career, Trahern was set to tackle the D-I ranks with his hometown Oklahoma Sooners. Trahern’s commitment to OU was so strong, most teams passed on him in the draft, but the Tigers took a gamble, hoping the firing of the Sooner pitching coach may sway his decision. As it turned out, the Tigers were right, and Trahern signed with the team, giving Detroit an unexpected high round talent in the 34th round. Dallas made his professional debut in the Gulf Coast League, overmatching his competition. Trahern finished 2004 with a 0.59 ERA over 6 starts (30+ innings), posting only 7 walks and 24 strikeouts.
Scouting Report
Dallas’ long, lanky frame is ideal for future growth and continued development, hopefully adding more strength and increased velocity as he matures. His 6-foot-3 frame is considered very projectable and provides great promise for his future. Trahern combines average, low-90s velocity with progressing breaking pitches, and good control for a young pitcher. A highly athletic pitcher, Trahern uses a smooth, repeatable delivery and good composure to remain effective during tough situations. He pitches older than his birth date, acting like a veteran at all times. With continued growth, and possible added velocity, Trahern could become a dominating mound presence and could move quickly through an organization.
Health Record
Dallas has been healthy and pain free so far in his career.
The Future
With a log jam of young pitchers in the low minors, Trahern is likely to move slowly to start 2005, likely heading to Oneonta once the New York-Penn League season starts. With his combination of a solid arsenal and good composure, Trahern will likely experience significant success again in 2005, and could earn a promotion to West Michigan at some point. If Dallas is able to distinguish himself as a premier pitcher while continuing to fill out his frame, he could move quickly; both through the organization and up prospect lists. There are still a lot of obstacles to overcome for this young arm, but everything is there for him to become a top notch pitching prospect in the near future

Re: Cap Requests Welcome
Could someone make a cap for Cubs AA P Jonathan Connolly
Early last season the Cubs traded Felix Sanchez to the Tigers in exchange for Connolly. Connolly isn't the big, overpowering pitcher many of us have come to associate with the organiztion's young guns, but that doesn't mean he isn't effective. While not overpowering enough to strike out a lot of batters, Jon does to other important things very well; keep the ball in the park and not walk anybody. His K/9 of over 4.0 and ERA of 2.40 at Daytona last season earned him a late-season callup to AA as a 21 year old. While he doesn't have the glamour of some of the Cubs' young power arms, if Connolly can continue missing at least a few bats, his control could easily carry him to the majors.
After Felix Sanchez frustrated Dusty and front office alike after not performing in April as he had in Spring Training, Jim Hendry traded the left-hander to the Detroit Tigers. Back from Detroit, they landed Jon Connolly, the 2003 minor league ERA leader. Not a lot different from the 2004 ERA leader, Zach Duke, Connolly is a soft-throwing southpaw that has yet to face stiff competition. The belief is they players get weeded out of the system when reaching AA, but Connolly really impressed Cubs' brass in one AA emergency start. I'm a big fan of Connolly and hope he stays in the franchise, but if some organization wants to take a chance on some leftie with a mid-80s fastball for a year, let them have at it.

Re: Cap Requests Welcome
OK, from now on, I'm going to stick to making legend caps instead of current ones. As I've already started the Red Sox, Yankees, and Mets teams, I will also be starting the Twins/Senators and Giants teams as well. Expect Bert Blyleven, Christy Matthewson, and Jerry Koosman to be up soonBOSTON RED SOX 2004 WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS!Comment
