    CPU pitch control ??

ok, I'm using two dynasties, one for my Tribe with sliders designed by friends like Dowie, Wassaserman and my own preference. The other is my experimental set with sliders stacked in the CPU's favor.

Most of us play with cpu control between -15 and -50. On my 2nd set I set this slider to zero. What I discovered during two games is that I did not get 1 single "yellow" X for ball thrown by the CPU.

At -25, I get maybe 4 or 5 a game. Ace pitchers tend to throw 1 or 2 at this level.

I'll continue to experiment to see if my theory is true. The lower the cpu pitch control, the more "ball warnings" you get. It may not mean the pitcher has less control but that you get tipped off more. After all, control should be determined by the caps.

Dowie, sometimes when the CPU throws a ball, it will tip you off with a yellow X to indicate that its a ball and don't swing. Similar to when the CPU throws a mistake pitch, you get a red colored pitch that tips you off.

I see, I don't use any aids, but are you saying with cpu pitch control at 0 they throw more or less mistake pitches (down the middle)?Dowie

The yellow circle with a x in it shows up even with all aids off. Its shows up kind of a grey circle when its a meat pitch and a yellow circle with an x when its a ball. It just happens when the cpu make a real bad mistake pitch.

It will show up as a red, blue or grey circle depending on where in your batter's hot/cold zones the mistake pitch was made. Yellow "X" would be for mistake pitches outside of the strike zone.

I play at cpu pitch control at -21 on mvp level...with cpu ball rate at 3. Nasa plays his ball rate at 8...but I'm really patient and can draw up to 7 walks a game with it at 8. Dowie

Wow, what's your secret to the good plate discipline. I try like heck to draw walks and do well but I could use improvement. I avg 3-4 at 8. It's more than simply taking pitches. Do you study the pitch sequence history with each at bat? or have picked up on a pitcher's sequence?

No secret. I play with Nasa's mvp settings, other than the ball rate. Since the stamina's are so high I think the cpu lacks control earlier. Also, I tell myself that I will get the cpu to throw 100 pitches by the 5th. More times than not I'm right. I take a ton of strikes if it's not in the zone where I'm looking,so I guess that's my secret. Look in a zone, and if it isn't there take it until there is 2 strikes on you. Once having 2 strikes go the opposite way and try just for a single. That way you let the ball get in deeper, and sometimes you can tell if it's a ball. Does that help?Dowie

                            - Yes, thanks
Do you strikeout alot with 2 strikes on you often?

MY approach to the game has changed. I hit according to situation.

Nobody on base? - I work the count, and take what the CPU is giving me. If he is throwing balls, I take until he throws strikes. If I'm ahead in the count I look for fastball or hanging change up depending on where he is pitching me. If he is pitching me inside, I look inside. If outside, I look outside.

My approach is different during the beginning innings vs later innings when the CPU is tired. Beginning innings, take the first strike and work the count. Only if I have a hitters count will I look for a pitch in a zone I can drive.

Later innings with a tired CPU, I'll look for inside to pull and drive even if its the 1st pitch and especially if there on men on base. No one on base, I work the count as if it were the 1st inning with weaker hitters but I'm swingin with my power guys.

One thing is for ceratin, I don't go up lookin' to hit homers but pitches I can drive. I don't try to pull, if the pitcher is pitching outside. Anyway, I'm sure we are similar in our approaches.

Yeah, I liked last years version, but it hurts only having 12+ stadiums and the rest are generic. I love college in real life so they are on to something. If you can do every stadium in football why not baseball? I'll rent this years with Weaver on the cover, but no game has kept my attention as long as mvp 05. If you just keep updating the rosters and don't worry about the new Busch Stadium on the ps2 then the game could last as long as you are into gaming. It's the only game I own and play, but then again I'm 32,married with a 11 month old son, and own a business so I don't have enough time to play 3 or 4 titles. I get about 1.5 hours in a day, unless we are traveling. Dowie
