    RE: Contact and Power sliders

I was browsing the boards on MVPmods.com and came across a topic in which someone was testing the contact and power sliders. They seem to have currently come to the conclusion that the Contact and Power sliders are INVERSELY RELATED!!!
For example, putting the USER/COM Contact slider up will decrease the USER/COM Power slider by that same amount. After reading the topic and thinking, it makes perfect and practical sense that this is the case. The contact slider has nothing to do with hitting and getting HITS...increasing it just makes you more able to "physically" make contact with the ball. Although you will make more contact with the ball, the chance for good or excellent contact(power) drops.....(think of going from a regular baseball bat to one of those fat wiffle ball bats....you can't miss the ball with it, but it is harder to make "perfect" impact which leads to power).

If this is true, the actual effect of a slider setup like Pared's is as follows:

    USER CONTACT: 14 (C+14, P-14)....7
    USER POWER: 7 (P+7, C-7)......-7

This makes some sense to me, as I have seen some people complain that they cannot hit for power using pareds or jistics current slider setups....this may be the reason...the sliders may be working against each other. I will continue to test this and will probably report back later. If anyone has any thoughts or just think I'm crazy, please reply!

VERY interesting...I would certainly be interested in hearing what you come up with. As you say, the rationale makes sense.

So, if I have -50 for contact for both Human and Cpu, and -10 for power for both as well, what does this translate to based on the theory above?

I was under the impression that the contact slider had nothing to do with how easy it was to make contact with ball, but how hard you hit the ball. The higher the contact the harder you will hit the ball. No?

By the theory I mentioned above, the actual contacts would be -40 and the actual powers would be 40...by lowering the contact slider that much, you will not make contact that much but when you do, it will be for more power than you expect.

Again, I don't know if this is true, I'm just throwing it out there because it makes sense to me...

So, it is almost like you have to choose your poison...do you want more power or more contact? or, leave both at 0 for an even balance. At 0, the game produces too much offense, so the only real way to "fix" this is to alter player ratings in MVPEDIT which most people think is a no-no because of franchise play and incoming rookies...

Hmmm...I see what you are saying...but hope you are wrong!

I tested this on ALL STAR with the contact slider at 50 and the power slider at 10 and hit 6 home runs in one game.

I think contact slider controls the amount of green during a pitch. the higher the contact the greater the green contact area. watch pitch analysis. this is why you can hit more homers because your timing can be a bit off and still hit it good.

with that being said i still hit very few home runs with high contact.
