    User Power

I have posted a few times that I have trouble hitting hr's on all-star using the sliders by Pared, Wilson and a few others. I'm no video noob. I guess I think maybe i'm not being patient enough. I did notice that it seems the cpu has few so-called "cripple" pitches. When I miss with a pitch and leave it hanging over the plate (cripple pitch) the cpu hammers it. The cpu makes VERY few of these and when it does, I may get a single, but never really hammer it. I think I will go back to Pared's orig. sliders, but my pitchers were really getting drilled.

Patience is definitely key. Go up to bat with a "game plan", such as looking for a pitch in a particular zone. Generally, most hitters are going to have more power when pulling the ball, so looking for a pitch middle-in is a good way to go. Hold the left thumbstick either directly in, or up and in and wait for something you can drive. It will not always be a HR, even if you make perfect contact, but you'll certainly hit quite a few that way. Personally, I rarely hit a HR off a mistake pitch, unless they throw it where I was already looking. Check the at-bat history, see how a particular pitcher has been working you. Also, to improve your chances of hitting a HR, increase the User Contact slider. That will enable you to get the bat on more pitches, and also to hit them harder when you do. Timing is also the most vital thing. You can be sitting on an inside high fastball and then they throw one, if you swing too early or late the ball is not going anywhere to speak of, this year moreso than last year you have to be "on" a pitch to drive it.

        Re: User Power

Timing and patience are everything in this years game. Timing more than anything though. There have been pitches I thought I crushed that died in the outfield. Afterwards I checked my swing analysis and found to be just alittle early or a little late on my swing. I almost always check my analysis after my at bats to see what is going on. I will usually hit pretty bad the 1st inning or two until I get the speed of the oposing pitcher down. I was having trouble at first also. I upped my contact to 30 and power to 20 and still wasnt hitting any out until I worked on timing. Now in my owners mode team I lead the league in team HR's with 44 though the first month and 2 games with 0 contact and 0 power. I'd go with what wawasman said also about bumping up contact if your having trouble cause all the power isnt going to help if you cant make solid contact. I'm playing on all-star with wawasman's sliders also. Hopefully that helps some.

excellent points. I have tried going to plate waiting on pitch in a particular area, at least until I get 2 strikes, then I protect the plate, but I think I STILL am too impatient. I will keep trying this approach. You guys just confirmed that i'm not giving it enough time. I'm going to try jistics sliders, looks like he has human contact at like 40 and power at like 20.

                I tried this.

                contact 10
                power 30
                pitch speed -4

I'll try turning down pitch speed. I jacked power up to 50 and I STILL am hitting warning track shots. I have been more patient at the plate and that definitely has worked more than anything with respect to hitting in general. The other problem I have is that it seems the CPU works out of jams and cheats. I'll load bases with no outs and end up with one damn run! This happens continually. No clutch hitting. I guess I have to work on that. Help me understand why I am getting 8,9 10 hits per game with the Indians and few homers with power jacked up to 50.

When I was struggling with hitting initially, I raised the Human Contact slider up to +10, and was hitting the ball with much more authority. This way when you hit the ball, you hit it harder, resulting in longer shots. I've never messed with the power slider though, I hit plenty out at default. Try the contact thing, it should improve your overall hitter, and power will come with it.

Yeah I was using Pared's sliders V1 and having problems hitting homers. I originally upped the contact to 17 with power at 20. I started hitting homers pretty OK then. After a while I lowered the power to 17 and, again, I struggled at first then started hitting homers pretty regularly. Its just a timing thing, and how to work the at bat just like you guys have been saying. I had to lower my contact now cause i was getting way too many base hits, now my contcat is down to 8 (and Im probably gonna move that down to 3 or 0 soon) but i think im gonna leave the power pat for now.

shouldn't the ball be leaving the yard with power at 50? I cranked it up and no noticeable difference. Try it. I just don't know what the problem is. I'm an experienced player, I had 2004 and bought all of the High Heat games for the PC. I don't suck, but I can't go yard!

I know this is repetitive but I know how you guys are feeling. I was having a terrible time initially. Pop ups CONSTANTLY. It really does just take practice and patience though. Some tips:

                              I play All-Star level Contact 14 Power 12 Pitch Speed 0

                              1) I know some of you dont use Hitters Eye, but if you do, watch for those pitchers that tip their pitch early. Sometimes you'll see it in pitchers hand during windup, sometimes in his glove. Last night Hank Blalock jacked one off Bartolo Colon 403 ft on a changeup down and in...a changeup I knew was coming because Colon doesnt hide the ball real well from the stretch.

                              2) Force yourself to stay down on the pitch. I was always uppercutting. All the did was pop the ball up. Before every pitch I tap down on the control pad just top remind myself to stay down on the pitch. If youre trying to hit HR's you wont. Just go with what the pitcher gives you. Ive hit HR's actually holding down and in on a low inside pitch. Course when P hangs a curve, you have time to go up the ladder and jack it out that way.

                              3) Patience. Try to wear the pitcher out. Make him throw some pitches.

Hope this helps somebody. Just know it is very possible to hit HR's on All Star level without jacking USER power and contact out of the park.
