Is Garland and the Sox for real?

Best record in baseball, and Jon Garland is the only pitcher in the majors with 8 wins.

Obviously all the Sox fans think this team is for real, but lets hear from everyone else. Are the Chicago White Sox for real?

Too early to tell, but I like the way the team plays tho. Good luck in dog days of summer, because that's when the Twins decide that they actually want to win baseball games.
Cameras or guns, one of them is gonna shoot me to death.

I thought this team was going to suprise people before the season started. I picked them to win the division.

I don't expect them to finish with a .700 winning percentage but they'll win at least 95 games unless injuries pile up.

Don't forget they're winning without Thomas. Dye and Konerko aren't even hitting their weight. The decrease in starting pitching performance will be offset by the increase performance from those 3 hitters.

Garland will be at the all-star game and I expect him to be good the rest of the way. It seems like the lightbulb has finally turned on inside his head.

I'm not sure if the White Sox will be in it for the long haul but i think Garland is for real. Garland has been stuck on 12 wins in each of the past 3 seasons while the White Sox have been waiting for him to have a break out season, he pitches in the middle of the rotation and faces most teams 3rd or 4th starters so it is easy to believe that he can keep this going all season.

Re: Is Garland and the Sox for real?

The fact that our 3-4-5 hitters is hitting sub-par is an example of how great this team really is. Just think how much more better this team can be if Konerko, Rowand and Dye fulfill their expectations of having big bats.

Jermaine Dye has been injury free, and Iguchi I think is the surprise pick up of the year along with Dustin Hermanson.

Pods already leads the majors in steals with 24, 9 more than Ichiro and Brian Roberts. And we're not even done with May yet. I project him to break 70 this year.

Our Rotation has the best era, along with probably one of the most sound bullpen today. The fact that Marte, Hermanson, or Takatsu is capable of closing out the game is great. We've had many 1-run wins this year.

Ozzie is a smart coach. I do admit I was one of the more skeptical ones when they first hired Ozzie, but now that his theory of playing small ball is really working, I'm beginning to like the guy more and more.

Watch out for the Sox, we finally have some attitude like hte good ol days of Black Jack and Robin Ventura.

They're not going to be this good the whole way through. Konerko should pick it up and I like Rowand but Dye probably isn't going to improve much. The bullpen is real shakey as in his years past Marte has proven he cannot handle the closer's role and I wouldn't expect Hermanson to be lights out all year. Contreras and Hernandez can't really be relied upon because of health concerns but their front three of Buehrle, Garcia, and Garland should remain solid throughout the year. They should be in contention for a playoff spot come September.

Like everyone else has said, it's very unlikely the Sox will stay this hot. That being said I don't see anyway they'll go in the tank. Their pitching is at the very least the best in the division. If their hitting can pick up they should be set to make a run in the post season.

I think that both are real, however I dont think that neither one of them can stay as hot as they are right now. I hope that Garland's arm does not get hurt over the course of the year but I doubt it will because he has gradually increased his innings over his career and is a big guy. Sox fans, how is his motion?

I think the Central Division will be a good race this year. The Twins and White Sox series should be even more intense now.

Garlands motion is very generic. He doesn't do anything that would make him more injury prone than any other pitcher. The only thing that is remotely different is that he barely has a leg kick.

Thanks. Well that is a good thing for the White Sox then. Hopefully there are a few Santanna v Garland matchups this year.

Count me as someone who thinks the Sox will come crashing down to earth pretty soon. I just don't see that team sustaining this. Every year, there's a team that jumps out like this unexpectedly, and this year it's the Sox.

I see them winning 85 games.
