    Biggest Ego in Baseball?

In the new issue of Sports Illustrated they have a little thing where they polled MLB players one who has the biggest ego in the game. The results:

    Bonds 52%
    A-Rod 17%
    Schilling 9%
    Sosa 3%
    Edmonds 2%

I guess it's not surprising Bonds is first and I think that's probobly accurate, but at the same time he's been so dominant it's also not surprising. I think the biggest ego in relation to their talent is Sosa.

Last year he claimed he should be hitting 3 or 4 for the Cubs, even though he was .253, 35 HR, .517 slugging %, meaning he would be hitting in front of some combination of Derek Lee (.278, 32 HR, .504), Moises Alou (.293, 39, .557), and Aramis Ramirez (.318, 36, .578). He also said it was 'an embarassment' to hit 6th in the order...maybe if he hadn't struck out 133 times in 478 at-bats (or once every 3.5 AB), that would make more sense

The only guy on that list who has a right to be there is Schilling.

    I didn't know that about Edmonds though....interesting.

Psh. I can see Schilling on there, maybe even Sosa. But, we all know that Bonds doesn't toot his own horn. Even A-Rod doesn't, as much as I don't like the guy.

Other people that may be deservative on there would be Everett, Pierzynski, Rocker, and Bradley.

If the Mets organization is to be believed, A-Rod wanted all sorts of stuff to come play for them. Private jets, billboards, own office/tent, etc.. that really reeks of ego.

Of course I'm under the impression now that he actually never wanted to play for the Mets after all unlike what the media here was saying in the months leading up to that offseason.

I really don't have much problem with any of these guys being on a ego/selfish list. Although Sosa should be higher IMO.

Bonds, Schilling, Arod and Sosa are the first guys I think of when talking about ego. Bonds and Arod don't talk about themselves, but they both want to be pampered more than other ballplayers. Schilling loves to talk about his accomplishments - hence the nickname "Red Light". The Sosa refusing to bat lower in the lineup has already been discussed.
