    Danny Graves cut by Reds

Theres a link on Yahoo! but Im too lazy to copy and paste. He has been doing terrible not that I follow the Reds but it seems he gives up a lot of runs to be thier closer. Im sure some other team will pick him up quickly

    Linkage

I didn't realize they cut him. I thought I heard on ESPNews earlier that they were just sending him to the minors.

Yeah...that's what I thought too. Wasnt he on pace to break the season record for most saves last season? But look at his stats this year...18 runs allowed...15 earned in 18 innings pitched.

And he always made some obscene gesture towards the fans so Im guessing that was the final straw.

They have 10 days to trade him, release him, or send him through waivers. The Reds said the incident with the fan yesterday really didn't have anything to do with it but I think it was the final straw. He's been a waste this year. I don't care what his 10-12 in save opp stat says.

NBA Players Union boss Billy Hunter was just asked about Graves release and he said it had something to do with him being half-asian

I think Graves will be picked up pretty quickly by another team.

Still, the more I think about this, the more I think the Reds jumped the gun.

They're cutting a guy that posted 41 saves last year, 6th in the NL, and is the franchises's all time save leader.

And if I remember correctly, about 8 or 9 of his runs this year came between two games. Like Graves said, he isn't the only bullpen player in the league who has been struggling. Pretty much every closer in the league has had a bad outing or two.

Take him out of the closer's role and get his confidence back up, but to cut the team's all time save leader after a bad start to the season? His teammates obviously aren't very happy about this move either. All in all this just seems like it was poorly managed.

Some of the players seem upset about the move. When it rains it pours.

I guess when the worst hitting team in the league smacks you around the ballpark, you really don't bring much to the table in terms of ability to help the bullpen.

Wonder if the Braves are interested... With the 'pen situation, it might not be a bad idea.

All I can say is It's about time. The guy never does what he's supossed to. Even when he gets the save, he still always leaves the tying run on base. Ever since the Cardinals game where he gave up 5 runs to blow the game, the guy has gone totally downhill. None of the fans want him here, so I think it's a good move that he was released.

Maybe he'll do well somewhere else, but I'm glad we got rid of him. Now we can put Ryan Wagner in the closer spot.

He'd be a great pickup for the Braves, Mazzone could get him back to form and he'd be a hell of a lot better than Kolb, Kolb could move to setup man then.

Braves would be lucky to get Graves. I don't think they are gonna be the only team wanting his services and if I remember correctly, it goes by last years record.

Im not sure it would be the best move for Atlanta to pick him up, I read somewhere that Graves velocity his dropped off significantly and thats the main reason he is getting rocked, and Im not sure that anyone can build his velocity back up but if anyone can I suppose it would be Mazzone there in Atlanta.
