Dusty Baker has expressed intrest in Graves. The only problem is JoBo is on his way back, and could become the closer again. Hendry will probably wait another month and then look at the situation. Graves will be gone by then. He kinda reminds me of Hawkins........only luckier.

Graves has been really downhill since the All-Star Break last year, he's not had a 1-2-3 inning since before then, and was having trouble ever since the attempt to make him a starter. He got the saves but it was always skirting on the edge of disaster. A larger % of the time the tying run was in scoring position regardless of the lead he came in with.

I think, if anything, a change of scenery will benefit both Graves and the Reds.

Figures I have him in 2 fantasy leagues. I'm also fortunate enough to have Kolb, too.

I'll stick both on the bench for now and hopefully they pan out soon.

Are you serious about the 1-2-3 inning?

I feel sorry for Danny Graves. Heres a guy who tried to become a starter for the sake of the team, and it practically ruined his career. Ever since then his fastball has dropped significantly, and he's just been a mess.

Good bye Danny Graves! It is about time someone in the Reds organization (O'Brien) stands up and starts getting rid of underachievers and players getting paid a lot of money for poor production. I hope Miley is next, if the team and clubhouse are bad, I believe the manager has to take some responsibility for that. That, and the fact he manages a poor game, and the bullpen as well!

Personally, and I know I'll probably be told that I'm not a true baseball fan and all that, but if a guy closes out the win, I don't care if he gives up a run in the process, if he gets my team the win i'd want him there. I wouldnt care if my closers era was a 100, if he was 41 of 45 I'd take him.

I think it was all Uncle Carl. He has such knee-jerk reactions to the fans it's ridiculous. "Oh they're cheering loudly in Barry Larkin's last at-bat before the trading deadline. I better give in to his demands and sign him for 3-years $27 million. We'll be cash strapped for three years, but since the fans cheered that's what they want." No, Uncle Carl, we cheered for a great career as a Red, not because we wanted you to hurt the Reds by paying an aging oft-injured SS $9 million/year for the next 3 years when you don't raise payroll. Dan O'Brien is just the ownership's puppet. He's an idiot and so is his buddy John Allen. Pinning it all on Graves is stupid. I'm glad he's gone but I think it was stupid to just cut him. Hopefully someone will work out a deal for him. They never should have signed Jimenez or Eric Milton. I would have shelled out the extra dough for Matt Clement last offseason. Milton should be pitching on the west coast. Those are mostly pitcher's parks. This team has so many problems, it's not even funny.

Re: Danny Graves cut by Reds

I'm not sure Florida will be where he ends up, Todd Jones has done very well filling in as the Marlins closer and Guillermo Mota will be back soon, but some one will sign him. The Braves, Giants, Red Sox and Rockies are all strong possibilities. We all know Graves has not been the same since the Reds tried to make him a starter in 2003, so his problem could be mechanical. Someone like Leo Mazzone in Atlanta could probably work wonders with him (he has Mike Hampton pitching like the Hampton we saw in Houston). I think Graves was nothing more than a sacrificial lamb for the Reds, 10 saves in 12 chances and they decide he is the problem?. If you are a Reds fan be prepared because this is only the start, by seasons end Sean Casey, Ken Griffey Jr. and Austin Kearns could all be playing elsewhere, leaving the Reds to "rebuild" yet again.

You can probably cross the Braves off the list... Bobby Cox basically shot down that idea in the Atlanta paper today.

Locally the word is that if Graves isn't claimed on waivers today that he's going to sign with the Marlins.

EDIT: Just read that the Miami Herald is saying the same thing.
