1.5 games!!!

in a 5 team division, the only difference from top to bottom is 1.5 games in the NL East. btw id like to take this time to say "i told you so" about not underestimating how good the nationals would be this year. just an fyi.

NL East is by far the strongest division top-to-bottom.

It's going to be a tough battle all summer to win that division.

Well...i think its obvious it wont stay this close or anywhere near this close throughout the whole season. But there is no doubt that the teams in that division are all very strong but I see the Braves running away with it and I see the Nats just blowing it down the stretch.

I sure hope we can run away with it, but I'd rather not "blow my wad" so to speak, during the regular season, win with a decent size lead, and then use all our energy in October.

Whatever, we just gotta make it.

I have a feeling that every team in the NL East are going to be buyers when the trading deadline approaches. This may be a mistake for some of the teams tho as the division isn't the strongest in MLB but rather the division with the most parity among teams.

BTW the Nats are living up the M.O. that the Expos have done for the last decade or so and that is to be strong for the first half of the season then completely fall apart in the 2nd half.

I think it's going to be a two team horse race between ATL and FLA.

I was looking at the standings this morning, and I can't believe on a 1.5 lead right now.

Should be fun watch it come August/September, if it stays this close. I think the Nats will stay strong.

IMO, the best talent still lies in the AL East.

Ruling out Tampa, because obviously they are not a competitive team who will factor into the outcome of the AL East championship, here is how the average team salaries work out for the two Eastern divisions:

AL East: $111,714,855.75 (would average between #2 & #3 in terms of team salaries)
NL East: $78,842,818.00 (would average between #11 & #12 in terms of team salaries)

So, there's just a slight difference there.

Hell, even with Tampa added in with their $37,975,067 payroll, the AL East average would still be almost $18M more than the NL East at $96,966,898.

I have to admit, the Phils are looking really good right now. I don't think it will last long, but at least they are out of last place.
