    How Classless Is This...?

Roberto Clemente's family is pursuing legal action against the auction house that is selling off pieces of the plane in which the baseball Hall of Famer died.

Lelands auction house is selling a light metal piece of the airplane and a gray steel propeller. The auction, which includes 28 Clemente-related items, is to end June 24.

<!-- END LEAD --><!-- START REST --> Clemente died on Dec. 31, 1972, when the DC-7 he was on during a relief mission crashed after takeoff from San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Roberto Clemente Jr. said the family "will not tolerate anyone trying to benefit from my father's passing."

Joshua Leland Evans, chairman and founder of the auction house, didn't return a message from the Associated Press seeking comment.

Come on, that is absolutely pathetic. Selling autographs, balls, jerseys, anything else....but to sell parts of a plane he died in?!?! Seriously, that is about as classless and pathetic as it comes. Could this guy not show enough respect to the Clemente family, by not auctioning it off.

Besides, who would honestly want or be proud of saying...I paid for pieces of a crashed plane?

      Awwwwwww.....what a CUUUUUTE mental connection!

In all seriousness, that is pretty tasteless. I guess the greed for money rules all taste and tact.

I thought it was classless as well, but was told on another baseball board that I was wrong. I was essentially told that it's fine to make money off of anyone in any circumstance.

        Go figure.....

There's a line, and they more then crossed it. What kind of a person would buy that anyway? Would you really be excited that you just bought wreckage from a fatal plane crash? Ridiculous.

I saw this yesterday and was so angry. It's wrong on so many levels to start an auction like this.

Yes this is classless, tho I will admit that there are people in this world that would actually want this kind of stuff for the historical significance of it.
