Then check every single pitcher. Almost every pitcher that goes into the dugout uses the pin tar rag and then goes back out on the field. I doubt Donnelly is the only person that has done this. Complaining about this is a Dead Issue because you can't even tell me that it does doctor the ball expect base everything off an assumption.

Frank did need to do something to fire up his team did you watch your team get smoked? and Also they needed to do something to because of Jose Guillen being Mr. Tipoff.

What I don't get is why you can't grasp NOTHING HAPPENED. I do know that its can be illegal in one aspect then the other. Just look without being basis for a minute and actually look. Stop Complaining. Everyone has a different opinion.

Why the heck would a pitcher use a pine tar rag in an American League game? And yes I can tell you it would doctor the baseball from another post, but that isnt the point. It's still an illegal substance on the mound, period.

Actually no I didnt watch them lose because the game wasn't carried here in Northern Va, sorry.

And as for Guillen, IF he did anything why is that a problem? If you think the other team is cheating what are you supposed to do? Let them beat you with an unfair advantage?

Clearly something happened, otherwise Donnally wouldnt have been tossed. I find it interesting you accuse me (or us) of bias simply for knowing the rule book. Honestly who are the only people involved without bias?: the umpires. And what did they decide?

I pitched in high school and college. I can assure you that pine tar will make a baseball move in ways that is very unnatural and I can assure you that every single pitcher knows the effects of it. Same with vaseline, spit, sandpaper, emory boards etc....

I can also assure you that NOT every pitcher uses the pine tar rag when they go into the dugout? Why would they unless they were cheating? Pine tar would HURT a pitcher on the mound unless he was rubbing it into the baseball to make it move in ways it shouldn't. That stuff is too sticky and a pitcher's fingertips would stick to the baseball which would decrease speed.

This debate should not even be occuring. It's very obvious what happened and it's very obvious Donnelly went to the mound with the intention to cheat. Maybe someone saw him rub pine tar on his hand in the dugout? Maybe a former teammate of Donnelly's told Frank R that he does that sort of thing? I don't know, but I do know that Donnelly was 100% wrong in what he did and he deserves a suspension (one he will get).

Just saw Scoscia on SportsCenter saying 'it's in the rule book but pine tar is an accepted part of the game for pitchers'. Umm, by who? Clearly not the rule book and clearly not the umpires

You've been way off base throughout this entire thread. Pine tar is a foreign substance, plain and simple. If it were okay then they'd have a pine tar rag on the mound right next to the rosin bag.

Scoscia knew it was against the rules and made himself look like an arse in the process. I specifically remember a playoff game in '88 when Scoscia was the catcher for the Dodgers and Jay Howell (their closer no less) had pine tar on his glove and he was ejected and suspended for part of or the rest of the series against the Mets. Scoscia can't make the claim that it is accepted when he was involved in that very incident and precedent had been set.

It was a great managerial move by Robinson.
