The lack of a new stadium in Boston has nothing to do with tradition. The city wouldn't give the old ownership the money or space to build a new stadium. With the debacle known as the Big Dig going on, the money and resources simply aren't there. The new ownership has committed to Fenway because they know they won't get any money from the city or state and they can't afford to pay for it themselves since they just bought the team.

They are going to try and keep the same look as the old one.

That's no monorail, that's the current train stop at 161st Street, on the "4" train.

Am I the only one thinking that the interior pictures of the new Yankee Stadium resemble US Cellular Field in Chicago?

With the Mets slated to have their stadium done in 2009 as well, it could be a very interesting year in NY.

I really wouldn't put too much into the field/inside area of the paintings. They didn't seem to much detail in. There is no lattice facade or anything like that, and you can't see the bullpens really. I think it was more to show the outter structure, etc.

Why are they building a new stadium thats going to be just like the old one...Wouldn't just renovating the current Yankee Stadium be much less expensive

In the end, it would just be patchwork... You also have to remember the huge ego Steinbrenner has... Nothing would please him more than to showcase his team with a brand new gleaming stadium, with state of the art facilities, rivaling places like Camden Yards, and the new Phillies and Cardinals stadiums... Plus with the Mets about to finalize details for their own new stadium, Steinbrenner couldn't have some new digs in Queens while his team toils in a relative dump by comparison.

I think Boss wants the all-star game in the near future.... and our current stadium ain't getting one.

I think they could do better. The plaques and such should be on the concourse and they should figure out a way to hang banners for the various jerseys and titles won in such a way where you can see this at any point in the stadium, ala The Boston Garden.

As a matter of fact, no. They had the financial report (obviously mostly projections and estimates) saying that 30 years from now they'd have invested hundreds of millions of dollars repairing the current Yankee stadium (from '05-'35 for example). It makes much more sense to spend a couple extra million to get a new stadium w. all the new, high tech luxuries.

Look at it as buying a used car vs. a new car. Do you want to pay a lil more upfront and get a beautiful new car, or pay a lil less and risk spending hundreds of dollars and having the car break down every couple of months? When in the long run, you're prolly gonna spend about the same amount of loot.

As long as they have cup-holders, I won't complain.

Well it depends. If you're into classic cars like I am(in this case the "car" being Yankee Stadium), then you would take a '69 Mustang Boss Hemi in Black over any new car. It's that sense of both tradition and nostalga that keeps people coming in both situations.

Yes, but when that car doesn't have cup holders, I think it's time that you consider not living in the past.
