Re: do you like interleague play

the part that bothers me is the matchups the cubs have white sox home and away boston home toronto home and the yankees away...while the cardinals have played at kc boston at home yankees at home at toronto and at tampa bay and i am just using this as one case but there are others

the nl game without the dh is a much better game more strategies you have the double switch you have to think your pitching matchups with where the picthing spot is comeing up in the order the al is just not as good to watch for a real baseball fanIf anything they should make the NL use a DH too. I don't see why people like pitchers to hit. I want to see a pitcher hit just about as much as I want to see David Ortiz pitch. Why shouldn't even player have to hit? And every player have to field?

And yes, Edgar Martinez is one of my all-time favorite players, but he still should be penalized for not playing the field for most of his career.Comment

Re: do you like interleague play

Does anyoen else feel that the NL has a much bigger advantage over the AL when its played in an NL park than when its played in an AL park? I do... because the NL team gets to use a bench player as a DH which is much easier for them to do than make an AL pitcher who has never hit be in the lineup.

Thats why in interleague play I think a DH should be used no matter what but that would never go over with the purists.

Re: do you like interleague play

I voted no, but only because I think they should get rid of it since I'd rather they had a balanced schedule within their league. I do like seeing the AL teams play the Reds, but I think the World Series loses its luster a little when it's between two teams that have played each other already. I guess I'm a little old fashioned, but I'd rather the Dodgers and Giants came to town more than once a season. They don't only because of interleague play. Personally I think the Brewers should be sent to the AL Central and the Royals should go back to the AL West. 5 teams in every division that way.

And, for the record, since it's been brought up, I'm against the DH in all forms. Yeah, it extends careers for some guys, but a little more is involved with the strategy of the game without it. The damn players union will never allow MLB to get rid of it though.Last edited by SlimKibbles; 06-19-2005, 10:15 PM.MLB: Cincinnati Reds

The thing I would like to get rid of is the pitcher hitting in the NL.
It's basically a wasted out most of the time.Comment

Re: do you like interleague play

That's what they are doing right now though, with the exception of a home-and-home against their interleague "rival" regardless of what division they play in. It started off as the NL Central only playing the AL Central, etc., for interleague but they changed it after a couple of years to a rotation. Like I said, I do like seeing the AL teams come into town and play but the baseball purist in me wins out so I say get rid of it. Bring the Dodgers, Giants, and Braves into town for another series instead of only 1.Originally posted by rsoxI voted yes. The only thing i would change is i would have an NFL style rotation, that way each of the divisions would play eachother every 3 years.MLB: Cincinnati Reds

Re: do you like interleague play

I agree with this. Now with the Expos in DC the Blue Jays don't have a natural rival in the NL anymore. I was watching one of the games against DC and the announcers were saying that the Jays may be put against Philly as their natural NL Rival "sigh"Originally posted by camulos
 Con's
 - Most teams don't have natural rivals. The Braves are not the Red Sox rivals just because they were in Boston 50 years ago.

You can say that about the World Series matchup as well so that's a non factor to me.Originally posted by camulos- It's unfair for away teams. They are playing in parks which they never play in. NL teams aren't built to use a DH and AL teams don't have pitchers that can hit.

How many WS have we seen where the teams faced each other in the regular season since the Interleague? I can only think of one. (NYY vs NYM) So again it's not that huge of a deal.Originally posted by camulos- The WS isn't as interesting if the teams have already seen each other during the season.

I agree, I wouldn't mind seeing a home and away series between the "natural rivals" and one other series.Originally posted by camulosInterleague play isn't going away but I'd like them to reduce the number of interleague games to just a few series.

As for the DH, I say stick to the status quo. I think that the DH is a wonderful thing if only to lengthen the careers of very good hitters.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: do you like interleague play

I agree with the above.Originally posted by camulosI think they should get rid of it because the con's far outweigh the pro's.

 Pro's:
-Matchups like Yankees vs Mets and Cubs vs White Sox

 Con's
 - Most teams don't have natural rivals. The Braves are not the Red Sox rivals just because they were in Boston 50 years ago.
 - It's unfair for away teams. They are playing in parks which they never play in. NL teams aren't built to use a DH and AL teams don't have pitchers that can hit.
 - It creates an unbalanced schedule for division rivals.
 - There are less games against non-division teams. I'd much rather see the Red Sox play the A's or Angels a few more times a year than Cincy and Pittsburgh every 4 years.
 - The WS isn't as interesting if the teams have already seen each other during the season.
