    And the starting 1st baseman....

for the 2005 All-Star game is Mark Teixeira. Anyone else agree that's who it should be? I sure hope he surpasses Tino Martinez. Tex is probably the best first baseman in baseball today (I would say definitely but Derek Lee is having a very good year). Tex still doesn't have an error at 1st...the only other guy not to have an error at 1st is Erstad. He's a switch hitter, leading the majors in homers. He also has a ton of RBIs, runs scored & total bases.

I think it would really be a shame if he isn't voted the starting 1st baseman. I know it's a popularity contest to a degree but since when is Tino Martinez Mr. Popular?

I strongly agree it should be Teixeira. It's also a joke that Manny Ramirez has more votes than Johnny Damon.

Teixeira should no doubt be the starting 1B in the AL. He's a great player who could hit 50 HR's this year and most moderate baseball fans have never heard of him. However to call him the best 1B in baseball is an insult to the guy playing in St. Louis right now.

I agree..... as much as I love Tino, its a joke that he's leading it right now... he just gained a boatload of votes during that 10 Hr's in 10 days stretch... but he ice cold right now... and he's not even playing everyday.

I think they got the voting backwards... the managers and players should pick the starters with the fans voting in the reserves so they can see who they want without picking guys who don't deserve to be there. I mean Garciaparra leading NL shortstops.... come on.

I didn't say he was the best, I said probably the best. However, while Pujols is a great hitter, Tex is a better defensive player. Pujols already has 4 E's this year...Tex still has none. While 4 at this point isn't a lot I think Tex is a better defender. In fact, I think Lee is a better defender too than Pujols.

          I agree...that would be a good idea.

Errors at 1B can be overrated... I mean, Phil Nevin has only 2... and he's got to be one of the most clumsiest players in the field to date.
