Why are Carlos Beltran's SB numbers down?

I havent followed him much but know he is struggling somewhat. So today I looked up his stats and he is 1 for 3 in SB . This guy was 28 for 28 with Houston and 14 of 17 with KC, and was just as good in the playoffs running often. I even thought he had 42 steals in a row last year which would mean he got caught his first 3 times and then ran the table. Any thoughts on this, also why are his offensive numbers down? Is he trying to pull everything?

      Yup

When he's on, he rarely gets CS. I hope he gets healthy, its really a treat.

Thanks for the info guys. Is it that bad though? 3 attempts is really low for him even if he isn't getting on base often. Viper are Mets fans pissed at him yet or are they giving him a pass early?

I think the better question would be why does only hit Home Runs when Pedro Martinez is pitching?.

He has 8 HR's when Pedro pitches and 1 HR when anyone else starts.

I'm hearing he is almost completely healthy and his leap at the wall has to be encouraging. I think he'll begin stealing bases any time now, I mean this guy has been one of the best base stealers since he joined the league. He has 193SB and only 25CS in his career (89.45%)

Yup the problem has been his injury though. Watching the game tonite though, they were talking about it and Carlos said he's feeling much better and is at about 90%. He looks like he's better espically on defense as he's made a number of great plays lately. The SB should start to come soon.

Well, at the games I've been to, he hasn't been booed TOO harshly. This is NYC- you're bound to get people booing you if you don't perform.

However, if he doesn't pick it up soon (today's HR was nice), it will get worse. Without a healthy lower body, you can't hit effectively and I expect him to get better. He's still seeing a lot of these pitchers for the first time, and being injured has hurt his acclimation to the NL.

I hope he does better too

They interviewed Minaya at last night's game and he said Beltran is just now, starting to ge healthy. He'll be fine.

Same here :P He just seems to be compensating for his quad injury at the plate and it's effecting his swing. Since the injury, his average has dropped almost 40 points. I felt that he did need to go on the DL when it happened, as he didn't get that much rest to begin with. An injury to the quad muscle can turn into something very serious.

Of course the home run last night and that leaping catch are encouraging signs :P but he hit that wall hard and I got worried he was knocked cold for a second there.

Beltran seems like a tough guy to dislike, even if he is struggling. What I want to know is how much Met fans love Pedro?

I don't think he'll have the kind of SB numbers he did in KC regardless of how he feels. You have to think, in KC, he was either the leadoff or number two hitter. A number three hitter won't get as many chances to steal in the first place.

Good point. Most managers don't want to run into outs with their cleanup hitters coming up.

I was honestly a little bit concerned when the Mets picked him up in FA. At times in Boston, while he was a very good pitcher, he seemed a little bit un-motivated. He seemed like a completely different pitcher the closer he got to 100 pitches.. so far in NY he's been the exact opposite of everything I've feared. He's been jovial, motivated, and a leading candidate for the Cy Young so far.
