Re: Biggest Name to be Traded this Year
A's General Manager Billy Beane has repeatedly said he will not trade Barry Zito during the season, he also says no one believes him when he says that. Blue Jays General Manager J.P. Ricciardi says the same about Ted Lilly, both are signed thru next season and both GM's believe that they can get more value for them in the offseason, with a weak free agent class of pitchers this winter a lot of teams will be interested in trading for them.
The Phillies have approached both teams, offering 1B prospect Ryan Howard in a deal. Howard, Gavin Floyd and an unspecified third player to Oakland for Zito and Howard straight up to Toronto for Lilly, both teams rejected the offers.
The Rockies will trade Preston Wilson by the trade deadline but GM Dan O'dowd says they will not trade Todd Helton, at least not during the season. The Rockies will likely have to pay part of Wilson's salary to get another team to take him and do not want to do the same with Helton.
The Eric Chavez for Joe Crede rumors would be a White Sox fan's dream come true, but it will likely stay a dream. The A's are coming around offensively and Chavez is having his best month so far this season hitting .374 with 7 HR's and 18 RBI's for the month of june.
Bret Boone to San Diego is an interesting idea, but would only happen if Mark Loretta were to suffer a set back. The Padres are looking to upgrade offensively at Thirdbase, they have talked to Washington about Vinny Castilla but it's unlikely the Nationals will trade him, another possibility could be to trade for Joe Randa of the Reds, who they could get relatively cheap and would allow them to trade Sean Burroughs to the Twins, who have asked about the Thirdbaseman.
Who would have thought that when the season began Mark Kotsay would be the most sought after Outfielder as the trade approaches?, probably no one- not even the A's. The Yankees, who would love to acquire Kotsay now have competition from the Chicago Cubs. The Cubs are looking for an upgrade over the Jason Dubois/Todd Hollandsworth platoon in LF are said to be interested in Kotsay.Comment

Re: Biggest Name to be Traded this Year
Boone stays in Seattle. Damian Jackson and Geoff Blum have done enough to help keep the Padres in first. Eric Young is due to return by next week and Loretta is aiming to return by mid-July. If the Padres were to trade for someone, it'd be either a thirdbasemen (Joe Randa?) or a starting pitcher (I'm hearing Zito).
I don't see the Burroughs for Lohse deal happening at all however. The Padres already traded for a pitcher who has potential but no production (Tim Redding).Comment

Re: Biggest Name to be Traded this Year
Schmidt will be the biggest name.
I do really want Kotsay on the Yankees though. I know one position (a non pitcher at that) won't change the course of a season but we need a hard nosed guy who will go hard with solid defense and speed.
We could also use an actual leadoff hitter and move Jeter back to the 2 hole.
