The 3 prime candidates to take the mound and start the ASG are..

Mark Buerhle, John Garland and Roy Halladay...

    Who should be the starter?

I'll probably refrain from giving an opinion cause It'll probably be a littled biased...

    Halladay: 2.40 ERA, 11-4, 98K, 16BB
    Buehrle: 2.42 ERA, 10-1, 79K, 17BB
    Garland: 3.25 ERA, 12-3, 53K, 19BB

Obviously this is a two horse race. IMO Bartolo Colon should get more consideration than Garland.

If I was going on stats alone, I'd go with Halladay since he has slightly better stats and 5 complete games.

However, I'll go with Buehrle simply because he's been the best pitcher, on the best team in baseball thus far.

Clement's fifth day of rest will be the day before the all-star game and he has two starts left......

Halladay's been a workhorse (average of 7+ IP?), and his BB/K ratio is great. It'd be a shame if he was shunned rom being a starter, just because the Blue Jays aren't doing as well as the White Sox are.

                Halladay

He would have 12 wins if he hadn't forgotten about the guy on third on that infield grounder.

The guy is the definition of workhorse.

                  Halladay's average outing is 7.7 IP while Buehrle's is 7.66. That's a wash IMO.

Buehrle has 43 straight starts of 6 or more innings. Maybe 44 now? Unreal. He is my starter.

The nasty thing is, this season is looking even better than his Cy young season. I just love watching this guy pitch. He gets ahead of the count and uses his breaking ball effectively.

First off it's great to have both Doc and Buehrle on my fantasy team.

The nod should be given to Doc because he's had the better season so far.

                        Doc's VORP is 48.7 while Buehrle's is 41.4

Francona will be picking the starter and he sees Doc more often so that might work to his advantage.

Garland doesn't even get consideration imo.

VORP stands for Value Over Replacement Player. It's a Sabermetric statistic coined by Baseball Prospectus.

It's the number of runs contributed beyond what a replacement-level player at the same position would contribute if given the same percentage of team plate appearances. VORP scores do not consider the quality of a player's defense. It's a very complicated process that also takes into account park factors.

IMO it's the best stat to compare players excluding defense.

Here's the VORP for all the pitchers this season.
