    Yankees Franchise Value

If George Steinbrenner were to sell the New York Yankees, what do you think his asking price would be? I mean i know he wont sell the team but I saw the ESPNews special on him. But with the stadium and the team???

They said today on YES during the game that they are worth 950 million. So he'd prolly ask over a billion seeing how it's George.

Jeeze I didn't realize the YES network was that big. So he might ask for 1.5 or even 2 billion...people may say "umm hes not stupid" which is true but I gurantee there are suckers out there that would pay that much.

Buying the team for $2 billion wouldnt be considered stupid. The way salaries and the networks sponsers inflate each year, I expect the team's net value to exceed $2 billionin the next 15 years.

Yup I believe Manchester United is worth over a billion dollars. The Yanks are a natural fit to be the first North American team to be bought for that kind of money.

Yeah, selling for the team for 1.5 isn't that outlandish.

You don't sell something to break even...

Although I don't believe that the total package is worth 950, YES seems like it'd be somewhat biased and might inflate the actual price some.

They're worth a nice chunk of change.

Wow, George sure made a nice return... he only bought the team for $10M and now it's inflated to 90 times his buying price.

Bingo. Buying the team for 2 Billion would be a pretty good deal. Buying a sports team isn't a short-term invesment, it's a long-term one. There's no doubt in my mind that the Yanks will be worth more than that 2 Billion over the next 15-20 years.

It still makes me wonder what could have been had the Indians actually sold to Steinbrenner.
