    Was Jose Guillen Snubbed?

I don't know how you guys feel about Guillen, but should he be at the All Star game next week, in your opinion?

I believe he should, because his numbers are pretty good, and he's been the main anchor of offense in Washington, the second best team in the NL, in my opinion

He was snubbed but when you look at the Outfielders taken by Tony LaRussa you can understand why. Moises Alou and Jason Bay are their teams only represenitives, Bay is more deserving to go than Alou, Guillen is definately more deserving than Alou but Alou goes because someon from the Giants has to go. Maybe someday Baseball will change the rule that each team must have represenitive so that more deserving players get to go.

That sort of defeats the purpose of the all-star game. It's for the fans and what happens with the fans that has noone representing 'their' team? They lose interest. That then = less sales. Etc etc etc.

I guess they should change the name of the game from All-Star Game to "Every NL Team's Best Player Versus Every AL Team's Best Player." I think that rule is stupid. If that team is struggling, chances are fans aren't as interested in their whole team anyway.

I disagree, I think Alou's had a great year so far. He's basically carrying that team and his numbers show it. I think LaRussa was right to leave Guillen out. He had his hands tied because Beltran was the guy that didn't deserve to be going, but LaRussa can't do anything about that.

If you’re going to have every team have a player make the squad even when that person would not normally be good enough to be selected. Then I think you can’t have the all-star game mean anything. But if this game is going to continue to mean something get rid of this stupid rule and send the “best” players.

It goes vice versa too, so if a team were winning ala St Louis Cardinals -they should have their whole starting team out there? No. Hell, a few of them got in just because they are winning even if they individually aren't the "best" at the position. It's a fans game whether we like it or not. I bet someone actually took their time to vote for Rolen 5000 times and I might add that Larry Walker had a crapload of votes himself, thank god he didn't become a starter somehow.

                  Re: Was Jose Guillen Snubbed?

I do believe Jose Guillen deserved to make it hands down but in the back of my mind I feel like the reason he wasnt selected as a reserve was somehow due to that entire incident against the Angels and the pine tar in that pitchers glove, then again maybe I am becoming a conspiracy theorist. Im not a Reds fan but I believe that the biggest joke in my mind was that David Eckstein got the start at shortstop over Felipe Lopez, Lopez is hitting .319 with 14 homeruns, 48 RBI's, 45 runs scored and 5 stolen bases while Eckstein is hitting .289 with 2 homeruns, 23 RBI's, 46 runs scored and 7 stolen bases, they are both hitting lead off for their respective teams so Lopez in my mind should be the obvious choice. The only advantage that Eckstein has over Lopez is the 2 extra stolen bases and the 1 extra run scored, but Lopez has 12 more homeruns as well as 25 more RBI's, so again this doesnt even seem like a fair comparison. I might also add that Eckstein has a grand total of 15 extra base hits while Lopez has 34, just further proving my point.

Let’s just do away with fan voting, is it really that big of a deal that fans get to vote? I know I don’t give a crap about voting I just want to see the most deserving players on the team. But Guys who don’t deserve to be playing in the ASG continue to get voted in. Let’s take the meets for example. Mike Piazza and Carlos Beltran make the team as starters and a more deserving player by far Cliff Floyd is screwed and will not be at the ASG.</O

Well, obviously not, but if they just slot players in the ASG just for the sake of their team getting represented, then it defeats the purpose of putting the best players in the game.

I personally am against this "every team have a player" type of ASG. It leaves more deserving players out of it. On that note, MLB needs to change the format like the Pro Bowl, where votes are evenly split between fans, players, and coaches. That way, you put the best players on the field.
