This isn't even a debate. OF COURSE HE WAS. He should of been the starting 3B by a mile.

Aramis, Ensberg, Glaus... even David Wright deserve it over Rolen... and there's probably others, too.

Agreed. Sure, if Scott Rolen had played the whole first half he probably would be putting up monster numbers right now, but the fact is he didn't and at least 2 other players deserve the starting spot more then he does.

Yes, Ensberg was snubbed. Rolen should not be there. Truthfully if I were in charge, I'd make the all-star voting like the Pro Bowl voting: 1/3 fan votes, 1/3 peers/player votes, 1/3 manager votes. I think it was Jeff Brantley who was saying during a game yesterday that if they are going to make the game meaningful, which they have, they need to revamp the selection process. If it's an exhibition, which it no longer is, leave it up to the fans. Izturis and Rolen, among others in the NL, should not be starting. The AL votes were pretty much dead-on though.

To be fair, when Ensberg could have possibly been voted for (2 weeks ago at least) to change his stance, he only had like 15 homers. It wasn't till just the last 2 weeks that he's hit like 8 HRs and all. Not that HRs are the only important thing, but it's the one thing voters tend to look for, and players like Ensberg who few have heard of and even more have forgotten after his lackluster performance in 04 (compared to 03), see, there's alot of different valid reasons he didn't get there. However, if he keeps hitting like this we will probably see him in reserve next year and maybe starting the year after.

This adds a little more substance to the debate, but Rolen still doesn't come anywhere close to those numbers.

Snubbed by the fans, but not LaRussa.

It was Brantley, he said that during the Nats-Mets game yesterday.

Jul 10 Rolen and the Cardinals have decided it would be best for the slugger to rest his ailing shoulder over the break and not participate in the All-Star game in Detroit, the Cardinals' official site reports. "For a week and a half, the trainers, the doctors and I wanted him to rest it," Rolen's manager Tony La Russa said. "We wanted him to take the four days off, and finally we talked to the league and he's going to be replaced."

Rolen will be replaced on the roster by the very deserving Morgan Ensberg.

I'm glad Ensberg gets a chance to go to Detroit after his monster first half
