    Lou Pinella...just read it

Casey Fossum won't start Wednesday. After watching his bullpen struggle again tonight, manager Lou Piniella said he plans to use a reliever initially and then bring in Fossum later on.
''I've made up my mind and that's what we're going to do,'' Piniella said. ''People are going to think I'm crazy, but we're just going to try it. Starting tomorrow, I'll bring in whatever reliever I feel like starting the game with, and I'll bring my starter in in the third inning and we'll play nine innings of baseball that way.'' We don't think you're crazy, Lou. You're just a bad manager. Piniella didn't announce who would start in place of Fossum. This latest scheme isn't likely to survive the All-Star break, assuming it even makes it through the night.

    Well....uhhhhh

I'm somewhat mind numb, I can understand the reasoning with so many closers blowing leads late in the game, but what good will it do if the team is already down 4-0 when the "starter" enters the game?

It's worth a shot, what do the DRays have to lose?

I'll be anxious to see the outcome, I feel bad for Lou.

Well they are the Devil Rays... It may be unorthodox, but it could work somehow, I guess.

If I was Lou I'd do everything to get fired. Get paid and not have to be with that organization. They should be ashamed of themselves by not fielding a decent product; yet making profits off it. I feel bad for the fans of the D-Rays.

          exactly

Don't own a team if you aren't willing to put money back into it, that's the only reason I don't completely and utterly loath Steinbrenner.

Lou. You're just a bad manager.
I always thought it was the opposite? At least I like the guy.

That is pretty strange though, hope it works out.

I don't think Pinella is held in high regards as a manager, but along with you, I like him.

I don't think anybody managing the DEVIL RAYS can be held in high regards RIGHT NOW, maybe in their past career, but he is a hell of a guy.

I dunno he was much loved in Cincy with a pretty good ballclub that swept the behemoth in the A's and he was also held in high regard in Seattle except for his abuse of his starters.

I think if he goes back to a real team he'll be held in high regard again. I have a feeling it could be the Yankees.

This move really helps the D-Rays, considering that both the starters and the bullpen have a 5+ ERA each. So much for that plan.

He's serious about it. I'm not a baseball fan but its been all the buzz in Tampa today. He's doing it because the Rays have blown numerous(not sure the amount but its BIG) games with an 8 inning lead. Last night (3 run homer by Frank Thomas in the 8th) was just one in a series of heartbreaks for the Rays this season. Take out the 8th inning and they would be close to a .500 team.

Their starting pitching had been shaky but as of late its been solid. Lou's probably thinking that if he gets 6 outs early from the "Short Starter" then that will give way to the "middle relief starter" with a managable score.

                        Ahh who knows!!

This guy is turning that situation into such a joke. He's trying to get fired and still get the money owed to him, which isn't going to happen. It's a shame too because they have some amazing young talent who could greatly improve under a manager who actually cared.

The bottom line is what does he have to lose, I wish the Giant's would do something with the pitching staff. I totally agree about the steinbrenner remark. I would love to have a owner like that.
