I'm guessing Preston Wilson will bat leadoff when he's in the lineup.

I don't see how this trade helps the Rox any. I mean Zach Day is a nice pitcher but he's gonna get killed in Colorado.

Yep that's true, I didn't think about that. It seems guys with a lot of break to their pitches work the best at Coors.

I wonder if a domed stadium would make any difference with the altitude or not?

I still think Wilkerson is best suited as the leadoff hitter.

I think when Vidro comes back he'll be the 3rd batter, followed by Guillen, then Wilson.

Of course, that's all contingent on Preston accepting the deal.

First off... Why do you think Preston Wilson will be batting leadoff? He's a strikeout machine, and rarely walks. a career .333 OBP with a 4:1 K/BB ratio isn't going to get it done.

This is a pretty tough trade to grade. Kudos to the Rockies for dumping some big time salary, and getting a decent young starting pitcher in the process. But knowing how things are working out for the Nationals this year (overrated frauds), I'm sure that Wilson will go on and hit 25 hrs for them during the rest of the year.

Bad trade all around. Neither side really got hosed or anything, but I mean.....Preston Wilson? Outside of Coors? He's a .200 batter. Zach Day? He'll be one of the Rockies best pitchers and will have the pressure of helping only Jason Jennings to actually get anything done. Not to mention the fact that he is so streaky. Everyone involved in this trade has alot to prove. We'll just have to wait and see how it all goes, but I'm not going to expect anything good for anyone yet. At least the Rockies tried to get some pitching help, though. That's a good sign. Hope everything goes well for both teams, but I don't think the Nats need any "help" with their bats, especially not any help from a struggling slugger who was only ever any good in the worlds most notorious park for hitting home runs.

Are you calling the Nationals overrated? Because if you are...your right. I mean a 51-34 record along with being the 4th best team in the league? Absolutely overrated.

                            1. The Nationals are in need of a CF (it is not Wilkerson's natural position).
                            2. They are last in the NL in HRs.
                            3. They are last in the NL in runs scored.
                            4. They are last in the NL in SLG%.
                            5. They are 2nd to last in the NL in RBI.

It's safe to say they need offense in the middle of their line up. Wilson provides them with a big bat at a position they needed to fill and they got a reasonably good deal for him.

Wilson may just need a change of scenery and a few good hitters around him to pick his game back up.

I think it's a great deal for the Nats and sends a message to their fans that they are making a legitimate run at the playoffs.

Not really, Preston Wilson is a free agent after this season and Church could still get plenty of playing time in LF while Nick Johnson is on the D.L. (Wilkerson could move to 1B).

The Nationals had to acquire another hitter, they are last in the National League in Runs Scored and Home Runs. I'm not sure how much Wilson will help leaving Coors Field for a much bigger stadium, but it's worth the chance.

This is hardly a done deal, both sides still need to work out the financial aspects of the trade and Wilson still needs to approve the deal, so there is still time for the Cubs or the Rangers to get invovled.
