Raffy Palmeiro - The Next Mr. 3,000

Only 3 hits shy of 3,000 with 2,997 after a great day at the plate today going 2/3 with a HR and 6 RBI. He had a 3 run shot, an RBI single and 2 sacrifice flies in the game.

He will join the exclusive club of Mays, Murray and Aaron as the only guys in MLB history with 3,000 hits and 500 homeruns.

With his 565th homer today, he passed Reggie Jackson for 8th all time on the homerun list.

I wish he could get the 3 hits tomorrow in Baltimore, because if he doesn't...its likely he'll get to 3,000 on the road because the Orioles go on the road for 10 straight games after the break.

I figured I might as well make a thread as he prepares to pass 3,000 hits.

Question : What will his 3,000th hit be...

I think it will be his 566th homer..

Isn't Wade Boggs the only guy to homer for his 3,000th hit? Either way, it'd be awesome if Raffy did it.

I'd really like to see him do it tomorrow as well, just because he'll be in Baltimore. However, with a player like Palmeiro, I'm sure he'll get a great ovation no matter where he accomplishes the feat. It's just impossible to dislike the guy.

Hey, why not? The guy has been underrated his entire career. Has done nothing but work hard consistantly year in and year out. Why not have him work his butt off for that last one?

Seriously...I'm going to probably say a double to right center, and it'll take about 15 minutes for the crowd to start cheering. Hell, at the game on Saturday, after he got that single, even the Red Sox fans were clapping at 2997.
