    Cubs' Pen

    Jesus Christ already.

Jerome Williams Today: 1 run over 5 and 1/3
Our Pen: 5 runs over 3 and 2/3...

Does anyone have the patience to find out how many Runs the Cubs give up when their starters leave?
I cannot count the number of games i have seen this season in which the starter leaves with a one-run lead or a generally close game and the Pen, in as short a time as possible, kill the lead...

Also, someone needs to tell Dusty that when a guy rolls a curve in his 7th or 8th inning on the mound that it is time for him to sit...
He did this with Zambrano the other night against SF, and we wound up losing bc of the runs he gave up after he was spent...
Not to mention he did it with Prior in the NLCS two years ago...omfg...this is not baseball, this is sickness, truly mental sickness...

hey i am warming up the South Side Band wagon your more then welcome to jump on board when it goes by. the only thing going for the cubs is Lee, Prior, when healthy , and Hendry. You better hope to cut loose Dusty Baker. I believe he is the root of all your problems. He does not know how to handle a pitching staff, as evident. And as a side not, cubs fans don't you wish they traded Wood for blaylock and Teixeira when the had the chance, oooch! Hop on the wings of Scotty Pods while you have the chance.

Youre right about Wood. I will stay where I am. I hate bandwagons.

Fugazi this pen is a joke. I hate Dusty but this is all on Jim Hundley. What is #12 suppost to do when everyone besides Dempster sucks balls. They are still in it. They need a spark. If they had any guts they would trade for Manny. Hopefully Williamson comes soon and can set up. Get a lefty too. Vagina Merker is available but I hate that POS for what he started last year so who knows.

          Chill?
I will admit that it appeared about a week ago that the Cubs had gotten some things together...
But you are wrong...they are not playing well...
It is the same crap, they either score more than 5, or the can't get more than 4 hits...
Now, in general this might not be an issue, but it needs to be looked at in more depth...HERE WE GO...

          1. Pitching--Wood is a waste at this point, sad to say, but sadly true.
Our starting pitching cannot humanly play well enough to make up for the increadible series of risks that our entire bullpen is....A 4-5 run lead is not safe...
When a game is close, our bullpen has little ability to keep it that way with enough frequency to matter. Winning teams must win close games, and we cannot count on offensive heroics in the 8th/9th innings, sometimes the pitching must hold...

          2. Hitting--Aside from the fact that Dusty juggles the lineup far too much, we have a HUGE patience problem...It is a fact that being patient at the plate benefits the hitter, gives the pitcher more opportunities to screw up. Patience could turn Patterson into a .280-.290/25/100 guy, honestly...he would hit HRs and hit more doubles.

More importantly, we do not get deep into a team's bullpen, where their crappy pitchers are...Think about it...Over a three game series, you can see a great deal of bullpen pitching from your opponent if you can manage to work the SP up to 100 pitches around the 6th inning, or before. That pen gets tired quicker and rarely do pen guys have the stuff the SPs would.

We are not playing well...There is no reason we should not have swept the Giants...Why did we not? Our Pen, and Our lack of consistency in run production, which is exacerbated by failing to wait for a good pitch to hit...How many times do you see Burnitz (who hasn't been all bad) pop out or ground out because he is swinging like a lumberjack at an offspeed pitch?
