Wood's never pitched out of the bullpen before, never pitched consecutive days, and has been iffy all year. Williamson's been hurt forever. Nomar's only played a few minor league games and was only hitting .190 when he got hurt. A huge boost? I'll believe it when I see it. This is the third or fourth "huge boost" the Cubs were supposed to have gotten this year from returning healthy players, and they're still a .500 team.

Williamson will instantly add some mediocrity to a terrible bullpen even if he isn't as effective as his Cinci days. You can't expect Nomar to hit .190 the rest of the year, remember when Aramis was hitting .230 at the turn into June. Good hitters do not stay in slumps for long. Nomar's a great hitter even if he won't have the wheel's he used to. With Wood, the Cubs have no clue what they are getting. I understand that. Again he can bring mediocrity to a very ineffective pen. Huge might have been the wrong wording, but it is still a damn boost. Adding three players of their skills doesn't hurt a .500 team.

I'm curious as to what three players will be shaved from the roster to make room for these three. I figure Ronny Cedeno and Sergio Mitre are gone...but who's the third? Ohman? Remlinger?

Isn't this the umpteenth "Cubs are getting healthy" thread in the last two seasons?
Right now we can't beat the Giants or the Dbacks, rookie pitchers (with all due respect to them) are shutting is down, and our offense cannot manage more than 2-3 runs a game. I b*tch a great deal about our pen, but a big part of their problem is the inconsistency of the offense...which, btw, is something Matt Lawton is not going to alter too much...

The Season's Hopes hang on a few, frightful, questions:
            1. Can Wood adjust to a Bullpen role, and be a leader in the pen?
            2. Can Nomar contribute with such a late start to his season?
            3. If so, is he going to be an upgrade over Neifi Perez?
            4. Is Dusty and the management in general flaky enough that none of this really even matters? Will they "lead" the Cubs out of contention altogether?
            Australian Rules Football...just sayin'
