I think it's just when a pitcher throws a set number of pitches with a catcher and batter present. Maybe they take a break after 3 outs or something. Not really sure what all is involved but I think it's something along those lines.

i think it's a player, pitcher or hitter, that before a real game, goes on the field & "plays" (without real players) different game senarios - such as a runner on 3rd, no outs, etc,

No no, its quite alright. The Cubs simulated offense has been on a tear this year. I am sure they will be just fine in the simulated playoffs.

Usually they use several hitters and no defense. The pitcher pitches like it is a real game and based on where the balls are hit they counted as outs or hits. Nobody runs the bases or anything.....if someone hits one really good in the gap then they say there is a runner on 2nd. If someone pops up then there is an out.

Basically, it is just a way for a pitcher to get some work in without going to the minors.
