Re: Yankees decline 06 option on Bernie

You mean they're deciding not to pay him $15 mil next season???

Jk... I hope they do resign him for maybe 3-5 million for one final year so he can reitre as a Yankee. I can't imagine Bernie in any other uniform but pinstripes so I hope he sticks around for one more year next year and goes down as one of the most successful and classiest Yankees in history.

Yeah, I can't see him in any other uni besides pinstripes.

I still see him coming back, but obviously for alot less.

This obviously isn't a suprise, but I think both sides will agree to a 1-year deal for Bernie to go out on next year. Like you guys said, there is no way in hell I can see him in any other uniform. That would be a sad, sad sight.

I hope he retires after this year.

If not, do whatever it takes to make sure he doesn't play anywhere else.

I can't wait until the Phillies sign him to a $20M 4Y deal with a no-trade clause this winter.

If Bernie comes back next season it will likely be in a part-time or platoon role, so i would rather see Bernie retire as a regular after this season. Bernie has been a truely great player for the Yankees over his 15 year career and i would hate to see the Yankees do to him what the Reds did to Barry Larkin and the Mariners were doing to Edgar Martinez before he announced his retirement and not let him play.

Bernie has been getting platooned and been in a part-time role all season.

Yeah but he has still played in 89 of the Yankees 104 games so it's not like he is sitting on the bench for 4 out of 6 games a week. All i'm saying is i would rather see Bernie go out with dignity and playing every day (or almost every day) rather than riding the pine.

Played in also means pinch hit in a lot of those games.

Edit: Lets take 2001 for example when Bernie started every game he played in (148 of 162) for the most part Bernie averaged 3.79 AB's per game with his normal amount of walks for the whole season. This year he has 296 AB's so far. That is the equivalent of playing 78 full games this year give or take a few games. That means so far he has played 75% of the Yankees games... which pretty much labels him as a platoon player. Most starters play 90% of there games usually right?

Either way, hopefully he retires after this year.
