Karen Wellmeyer of Boca Raton suffered a ruptured spleen and was in serious but stable condition in the trauma intensive care unit at Jackson Memorial Hospital, according to her husband, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported on its Web site early Thursday.
Hospital administrator Victoria Zambrano said she could not confirm any information about the woman, due to hospital policy.
John Wellmeyer told the Sun-Sentinel that the couple was sitting behind the first-base dugout at Dolphins Stadium when Green's bat sailed into the stands in the top of the fifth inning and struck his 37-year-old wife in the side.
``I saw the bat crack and saw it was coming toward us,'' Wellmeyer said. ``When I looked toward my wife, I saw it going toward her. I was frozen. It was incredible how fast it got to her.''
He said stadium ushers and a nurse sitting behind the couple helped his wife until paramedics arrived. Karen Wellmeyer had internal bleeding and fell in and out of consciousness, her husband told the newspaper.
Phone messages left for Marlins spokesman Matt Roebuck early Thursday were not immediately returned.
