    Skip Bayless' article on Selig

Didn't see this posted anywhere on here.

This is a great article. I admit to being a Selig basher over time, but Skip makes some excellent points that I've curiously never seemed to put much weight upon in the past despite knowing them to be true. It's all about the power of the players' union and the lack of power Selig has as commish because of it.

Good article. When you really think about it, Selig has been put in an impossible position. People may blame him for the steroid problem, but could he really start a witch hunt without having any hard eveidence. Caminiti's and Canseco's statements introduced the problem to the public, which finally gave him some ammo.

Now that he has some power behind him in Congress, you've seen him toughen up some. He's basically said to the MLBPA that they can negotiatie the terms of a new steroid agreement with him, or he'll let Congress do it for them.

A lot of people thought Selig should have used his "For the good of the game" powers to get this done a long time ago, but can we really fault him for not wanting to put his job on the line to fight a losing battle?

In terms of bashing somebody who's been bad for baseball, Donald Fehr should be the #1 target.

I just clicked on the story on ESPN.com, but then I realized it was Skip Bayless, so I just skimmed it.

Good read. It really is remarkable how little power Selig really has because of the Players Union. To me, the fact that he's been able to accomplish what he has with the steroid policy and so forth is pretty remarkable. And it only took going to Congress to get the darn union to do it.

That was a good read, which is shocking since I hate Bayless with a passion. Now that the Red Sox have finally won their World Series, I can say I would be able to tolerhate a long work stoppage that broke the baseball union. It almost seems inevitable at this point as that union just holds way too much power.
