    What If....

The Padres happened to win the NL West with a below .500 record, and then got hot during the playoffs and ended up in the World Series? :y4:

I was just thinking of random things that would be odd...and thats one of them.

What if they Pirates finish with an above .500 record sometime in the next decade? Would life as we know it cease to exsist?

You'd never know it, you'd would have long since died from shock.

We have seen a team win a division finishing 3 games over .500 (the '73 Mets) and making it to the World Series so i suppose anything is possible.

And the Pirates are going to get better, Bay, Duffy, Doumit and Eldred and the young pitchers like Perez, Duke, Burnett and Van Benschoten those are some good young players. Just give them some time (and maybe a new manager!).

I was going to mention them. I think the Padres would be the first ever team under .500 to win a division tho. I guess that just shows how much of a joke the NL West is right now.

That must mean that Cuban bought the team

This obviouslt doesnt seem to serious a topic, but even if they did get hot, i dont think they would be good enough to beat ANY of the other playoff team, save maybe a WC team in the form of the Nationals or Fins.

if the WC team is the Nats then they have a shot but if it's the Marlins then they'll be swept. The Marlins' pitching is too strong to lose to that lineup.

                      What If....

The Red Sox went into September with the AL East lead, then not only lost it to the Yankees, but fell out of the Wild Card as well (to Oakland or Anaheim)

                      How crazy would that be?

Not crazy at all, just prove that the Babe went on vacation for a year.

If I were any NL team, I'd be scared of the Marlins. Theyre gonna be tough to beat down the stretch and if they get into October.

What if Peter Angelos actually gave two craps about the Orioles, and getting them better?

I still say the Sox will have the AL East lead in september and it'll be tied going into the final weekend and it'll be a 3-game playoff series.
