Personally i'd have given Trammell another year at the helm. It's interesting to see the Tigers setting up an interview with Leyland. I don't know if he'd be right for this team. I'm sure they'll probably hire someone else.

This has been all around Detroit since Leyland announced that he may be ready to manage again. He loves the Tigers. He has a previous relationship with Dave Dombrowski.

Leyland's been mentioned in Pittsburgh as well (Pirates fired/reassigned the entire MLB coaching staff yesterday). Obviously he has ties with the organization, but I'm not so sure I want him back. He did walk out of his contract with the Pirates back in the early 90's because he could no longer coach the young players. He went to FL, won a WS and then I think he walked out of there when they went young. He just doesn't seem to have much interest in teaching the kids.Comment

There are many problems with this team
I am a huge Tigers fan and no matter who they hire for manager, they will just be fired after 2 or 3 seasons. Throughout all of their losing there has been one constant... Mike Illitch! There is a tradition of losing in the Tigers now. Though he has improved the team a little, they still need better decision making at the top. They will not be any good for another 2-3 years because that is around the time we will finally be rid of the stench that Randy Smith left on our team. Once Dombrowski has turned over the entire Tigers system and built it up. As for Trams he just took this job too early in his managerial career, he would have been better suited to be in a lesser coaching role then take over later. Tram has more class than the entire roster of the Tigers has combined and it is embarrassing that they gave up on him. Hopefully a change of face will actually do the trick for once and get the players geared up. Maybe Pudge will have a change of attitude next year. Maybe the King of Hamburgers Dmitri will actually be productive because he is the 3rd best 1st baseman on this team. My wish is to possibly do with him what we did with Easley and just eat his salary. I guess he and Higgy almost got into a scrap a few weeks ago, I would love to see Higgy whip his fat butt. I'm also glad that Higgy can not be used as the whipping boy on this team since he didnt play that often and he would not have quit like most the team did this year. Well thats enough for my rant on my team, I feel that Leyland would not be the best hire. I would rather see Jim Tracey (i know he is under contract with the Dodgers) or even Grady Little. My Teams:
NFL - Washington Redskins
MLB - Detroit Tigers
NBA - Detroit Pistons
NHL - Washington Capitals
NCAA - Virginia Cavaliers
NCAA - Arkansas Razorbacks
NCAA - Michigan St SpartansComment

Re: So Long Alan Trammell, hello Jim Leyland?
The Tigers will continue to suck as long as they keep handing out these incredible contracts to plays like ARod, Percival, and that RF who I can't remember his name.“Nobody in the history of the game tried what I just tried. We’re talking about on the biggest stage, in New York, playing out of position and asked to hit fourth for the New York Yankees. I mean, that’s never been done.” - Sheffield on SheffieldComment

Thanks for the memories, Tram!!!
Although it is sad to see Tram (my favorite player growing up) get fired from the Tigers, I think that it had to be done for the lack of improvement the team has shown. Granted, the team has had a ton of injuries, but unfortunately the manager is usually the fall guy. I think that he should have been given one more year, but when is enough I guess?
As far as Leyland is concerned, I think it is his job to take. Leyland and Dombrowski are pals back from the success they had in Florida, and Leyland's history with the Tigers organization as a player, minor league manager, and many believe could have been the manager back in 1979 when Sparky got the job. Also, by managing the Tigers, he will be less than an hour's drive away from his hometown in Perrysburg, OH, just outside of Toledo. All of these will be key factors in his decision.XBL & PSN: zasbury25Comment

In any case, it appears once the numbers are finalized and the paperwork is taken care of, Leyland will accept the DET job. Heck, he's said he'll take it so it's up to Dombrowski and the Tigers front office to finalize the deal.Comment

Done deal. I am excited about the experience he brings to team that has a good mix of vets and a number of good prospects on their way up. Hopefully, we can dodge the injury bug and start moving forward back to respectability.XBL & PSN: zasbury25Comment

Re: So Long Alan Trammell, hello Jim Leyland?
I saw the press conference on ESPN News yesterday... Didn't look very inspiring.
I had heard Leyland on Jim Rome's show a few weeks ago, talking about how he wanted to get back into managing and how he had gotten the competitive juices back... It also sounded like he was pretty into that Philly job when it was open. His parameters were that the job wouldn't be too far from his family, and he wouldn't have to go through a major rebuilding job.Comment
