Damn, not the best news for the rest of the NL East. Wade was one of the things holding Philly back, and I liked him for it.

In a statement, Phillies president David Montgomery said, "This was a very difficult decision. No one works harder than Ed, and he has served this organization extraordinarily well for over 16 years. At the same time, we have not been able to achieve the goals we have set for the Phillies. As a result, I believe we have reached a point where a change is necessary."

            Phillies fire GM Ed Wade

            By Jim Salisbury

            Inquirer Staff Writer

After another season of missed playoffs and disgruntled fans, the Phillies have fired Ed Wade as general manager.

It will be announced officially at a 4 p.m. news conference at Citizens Bank Park.

Wade had two years remaining on his contract and it is not known whether he will stay with the organization. He was general manager of the Phillies for eight seasons, replacing Lee Thomas in early 1998, and taking the official title on March 17, 1998.

And the Phils' new GM is Lee Thomas!!!

Psyche j/k...but knowing the Phillies, they would hire that bastard back.

Ihope they bring in someone good and outside of the organization.

Its about time.... that team has potential to go places if the right pieces were brought in.

DEFINITELY. My joy will be short-lived if they come out at 4pm and announce that Ruben Amaro Jr is our new GM. In firing Wade, they've clearly demonstrated that they have their fingers on the pulse of the fans. Hopefully that awareness extends to their choice of successor as well....

I'd like to see Hunsicker, personally.

Amaro would be a horrible hire. I'd like to see Hunsicker as well. However, I wouldn't be opposed to seeing Mike Arbuckle either.

Yes!!!!!!!!!!! This is great but your right Ruben Amaro wouldn't be an upgrade at all. They should wait it out and try to get Cashman.

I'm pretty sure Phillies management are salivating at the prospect of getting Brian Cashman as their GM.

I'm pretty sure they're not. I'm pretty sure they're debating how many candidates they'll interview before introducing Ruben Amaro, Jr. as GM.

                            Hallelujah

I heard this earlier on a local sports talk radio station...and i was thrilled at first.

But then i remembered, this is still the Phillies. While they're taking a step in the right direction, i'm not going to hold my breath over anything earth shattering. ZXLT, said it...i wouldn't be surprised if they announce Ruben Amaro, Jr as GM. they retained their whole coaching staff before they made this move, which leads me to believe they're going to promote someone in house. Which is a shame cause i really think they need to shake things up and get a real baseball mind in here like the Mets did Omar Minaya (sp?).

                              From the rumors department....

John Marzano said two interesting things tonight. One is that there's a rumor going around that the Phils are going to send Thome and Bell to Seattle for Beltre. I'm not sure if Thome's no-trade clause would prove to be a hangup in that deal, but if I'm the Phillies I take that and run. The other thing Marzano said is that he expects Burrell to return, but expects Abreu to not return.

And Larry Bowa said on WFAN tonight that the Phils are pursuing Cashman. We shall see....
