AL West or AL East...which is better?

I know the East had 2 playoff teams this year and the West only one, but the A's were in the hunt up until the last week. Just wondering what people's opinion are on this. Also, consider the teams in terms of talent and how well they work togeter for the level of talent they have, not just record. (Consider the coaches too.)

    Biased opinions are welcome.

If you say so, then I'll take the AL Central... I'm kidding. I think all the divisions in baseball are pretty even, except for the NL West. Also it's hard to tell because the AL West only has four teams while everyone else has 5 or 6. So yeah the top teams are good, but we cannot tell because of the disparity. I will say that the West has and always has killed the White Sox while the Sox usually play well against the East. I know I always fear the west coast road trip that the White Sox have to take every year. So I guess in writing this I have made up my mind, I'd have to take the West over the East in my own biased opinion .

AL East, AL Central, and then the AL West. Well that's what records prove at least.

Actually if you take average records then it goes this way:

AL West: 331 total wins / 4 teams in division = 82.75 wins
AL East: 411 total wins / 5 teams in division = 82.2 wins
AL Central: 402 total wins / 5 teams in division = 80.4 wins

The NL would be as follows:
NL East: 425 total wins / 5 teams in division = 85 wins
NL Central: 489 total wins / 6 teams in division = 81.5 wins
NL West: 372 total wins / 5 teams in division = 74.4 wins

So total MLB Standings for average wins would be as follows:
        NL East: 85 wins
        AL West: 82.75 wins
        AL East: 82.2 wins
        NL Central: 81.5 wins
        AL Central: 80.4 wins
        NL West: 74.4 wins

So if you look at the records then the AL West is better than the East, but just barely. They were the two closest in terms of wins though so good Q in the first place.

Re: AL West or AL East...which is better?

OK, one more interpretation. I took the teams records for non-division play (So for AL East teams games they played against AL Central, AL West, and NL) to see how the divisions fared against one another. Here is my findings...

            AL East: 224-208 = .519 Winning Percentage
            AL Central: 215-221 = .493 Winning Percentage
            AL West: 219-205 = .517 Winning Percentage
            NL East: 239-199 = .546 Winning Percentage
            NL Central: 251-245 = .506 Winning Percentage
            NL West: 189-255 = .426 Winning Percentage

            So the rankings would go:
            NL East = .546
            AL East = .519
            AL West = .517
            NL Central = .506
            AL Central = .493
            NL West = .426

So now the AL East is slightly better than the West, and we are back to square one.

Some interesting findings while doing this:
Everyone in the NL East had a winning record against non-division opponents
Everyone in the NL West had a losing record against non-division opponents

what I meant by saying AL East, AL Central, and then AL West was basing on the top 2 teams in each division, overall I'm not surprised the West is better than the central.

Yeah, that makes sense if you just take the top two teams. I'll agree with you on that one.

What are all the stats for, Go by ur knowledge on who u think is better, no reason to go find every stat made to show ur point..This one to me could be wrong to ppl but my opinion the AL Central with the White Sox, Indians and Twins

What?? You use stats to backup your point and offer evidence as to why you believe its that way, not just saying "West because I think theyre better"

Anyway I say the West. Dont really think you can argue the East since both of their teams are out of the playoffs.

I think the AL East is the best division in terms of teams being able to compete. There will no longer be any small market teams there. The worst you'll see is a mid market which the Jays and now the Rays will be. I think that if the Cdn currency continues to do well against the US dollar we might actually see the Jays crack a 100 million dollar payroll in the next 5-6 years.

So looking at standings is finding every stat made??? Just kidding. I was just sharing my findings with others. I'm not even sure I had a point to make just was letting people in on info to help them make their own decision. I do like the love you showed to the central though!
