Re: Dodgers GM Paul Depodesta is getting the axe!!

Lima pitched well for the Dodgers and was a lot better in '04 than anything they brought in last year and Adrian Beltre's numbers likely would not have dropped off so dramatically if he had stayed with the Dodgers rather than switching leagues and playing in an even pitcher friendlier park than Dodger Stadium.

The bottom line is Depodesta made a lot of bad decisions and it cost him his job.

Maybe they somehow knew Theo would leave and will now throw money at him?

Re: Dodgers GM Paul Depodesta is getting the axe!!

I understand outside of making money, professional sports is all about wins and loses. When a team has a season like the Dodgers, heads are going to roll. But I think Depo got the short end of the stick.

He made 3 very wise decisions in not retaining Beltre, Lima, and Finley.

Anybody that says Beltre's numbers were hurt because of his home park didn't watch M games. Besides being brutal at Safeco, he was also brutal on the road. Here's his line from this season on the road
          .248/.295/.440

The bottom line is that Beltre had one super season and he came back to earth this season. His numbers this season are similar to what he did 2 seasons ago.

Lima on the other hand was brutal. He finished dead last in VORP (-30.8) among pitchers in the Majors.

Finley was also brutal. But when you look at his age, any smart GM would have seen this coming.

The 3 biggest moves Depo did was bring in Lowe, Drew, and Kent. Kent and Lowe both produced. After having a terrible start, Drew was on fire until he got hurt.

The bottom line is that the Dodgers had a poor season because of injuries. Gagne, Drew, Perez, Bradley, Dreifort, and Izturis all missed a lot of games.

Whoever becomes the new Dodgers GM is going into a good situation. The current big league roster is solid and the farm system is stacked. Ownership is also willing to spend.

If Theo had problems working for an alleged megalomaniac in Larry Lucchino, how would he ever put himself in a situation to work with McCourt? I can't see Theo to the Dodgers in a million years.

off topic: where do you get your VORP stats? Do you have a subscription to Baseball Prospectus?

You might want to close your eyes then...Theo and the Dodgers began talking today.

let's face it, the dodgers were abyssmal last season. their roster produced zero excitement, and for a LA team that's unacceptable period. what named players did the dodgers have to begin with that you say got injured? milton bradley, kent, jd drew, are the dodgers "big names".. i mean im just happy im not a dodger fan.

hey at least one major dodger agrees with me, eric gagne. he blasted the dodgers front office after the season saying this season was a disgrace to the organization.
